Quick View

LUSH Reincarnate Solid Shampoo is a solid chunk of shampoo that is made for dark hair. It cleanses and imparts a bit of red Henna to make darker hair gleam. It also leaves hair very shiny. It's handmade with mostly natural ingredients and, once you get past using a solid brick rather than a bottle of shampoo, you may like it as much as I do.

LUSH fanatics know that the company hand makes all their products using fresh, natural ingredients and a minimum of wasteful packaging. This earth friendly, animal friendly company makes many bath and body products and I like some and others not so much. One I really like is LUSH Reincarnate Solid Shampoo. Once I realized that I didn't need a headful of lather to get my hair clean, I was very impressed with how my hair looked.

The Shampoo

LUSH Reincarnate Solid Shampoo is a muddy brown colored brick of shampoo chock full of  natural ingredients and a touch of Henna to brighten dark hair and give it very subtle red highlights. The shampoo comes in a 3.5 ounce brick for $7.95. If you don't leave it in the shower to melt away, you should get plenty of shampoos from one brick. The LUSH website describes this shampoo like this: Cleanse dark hair and condition scalps with a Morrocan spice shampoo. Without too much lather or bother, the Rhassoul mud soothes from the roots, Persian Henna adds red glints, (great for Henna treated hair), and exotic sedra powder adds shine.

My Experience

I didn't know how the heck to use a solid shampoo but I wet the brick, which is fairly hard, and then my hair and rubbed the bar on my scalp. I didn't feel like anything was happening so I rubbed the shampoo between my hands like one would soap. There was product coming off so I continued to wet the bar and stroke it through my hair. I could feel it in my hair but it wasn't lathering much. Lather is made with artificial ingredients and most LUSH products don't lather so I don't know why I expected anything different from this shampoo. After I got a mild lather, I rinsed it off. My hair felt clean but squeaky. I always use conditioner after and the first time I used my own bottled stuff. I have since bought LUSH Jungle Solid Hair Conditioner and the two work great together.

I did get a fright when I saw light brown residue coming out of my hair. I color and highlight it and I was scared the shampoo was so harsh that it was stripping the color or even my own brown pigment. I later realized the brown residue was from the soap itself and not my hair. DUH. It doesn't stain and rinses away.

My hair looked great. It was ultra clean and shiny and the slight red glints were really flattering. Since I have been using Reincarnate, I have noticed that, when my roots - which are lighter than my hair color - need to be touched up, if I shampoo with Reincarnate, they no longer need to be touched up for at least another week. Weird, but it has happened a few times now. The shampoo is for dark hair and the Henna must cover the lighter stands some and make the roots much less visible. Hooray for less root touch ups! My hair smells clean, looks clean, and IS clean. This is a great shampoo for dark hair but always take it out of the shower and let it dry. Then store it away from water so it won't melt away.

My Viewpoint

I never thought I would like a solid shampoo. Nor did I think a solid natural, fresh, handmade rock could make my to the middle of my back straight hair look so good. My hair is healthy, shiny, has glints of red (I have red undertones but golden highlights so it really looks neat) that catch the sun. LUSH Reincarnate Solid Shampoo is a winner for anyone with dark hair. Yes, it's easier to pour a bunch of chemicals onto your head and get a big ole headful of lather but, once you get used to the low lather solid that is Reincarnate, I don't know if you'll want all those chemicals on your hair again. I don't. I really like this shampoo and think it's super unique. I give it 5 stars. I will use this almost exclusively (I bought three different solid shampoos from LUSH so I have to try them and use them too!). Go on, go natural, go fresh, go solid. Your hair will thank you!

Patty, this sounds like it would be an awesome product! I also color my hair and would love using a product that means less touch-ups on the roots. This might just be the "ticket." I plan on checking into this further. "Thank-you."
