The Verdict:  Mudflats is my new favorite soap from LUSH.

Just the Facts:  Mudflats soap is made by LUSH which is a company that makes unique, fresh, animal-friendly bath, body, and beauty products. A few weeks ago I was wandering around LUSH looking for the few products I have not tried yet when the sales associate suggested Mudflats soap.  I never gave it a chance as it doesn't look very interesting.  It's basically just a big brown blob of soap without much character but when I sniffed it I knew I had to give it a try and I'm very glad I did.

LUSH describes Mudflats as being a bit of mud, a pinch of lavender, and a sprig of rosemary.  They go on to say that it is cathartic, detoxifying and takes you to a whole new level of clean and that the earthy arome hits me the instant the water begins to flow.  With the exception of the touchy feely stuff, I'd say that description is pretty good.

Mudflats is rather soft, I suppose that's because it contains rhassoul mud which gives it the earthy brown color.  I bought a fairly large chunk of it and cut a smaller piece off for my first try. During that first shower I was disappointed to find that the bar stuck to my skin in an annoying way.  Not pieces of it but the whole bar.  I had to run it under water for a few seconds to get it to lather a little and then it glided over my skin just fine.  Although it does not have a strong lather, it cleanses well, rinses easily, and exfoliates slightly.  It's not scratchy at all, just ever so slightly gritty in a good, non-painful way.

The scent of mudflats is quite surprising.  I expected it to smell like a mudpie but it is lemony, slightly minty, and herbal due to the rosemary oil and a bit of lavender.  And although it is fairly soft each piece lasts a long while as long as it is stored away from water.

Closing Argument:  ***4 stars***  I'm on my third bar of Mudflats now and I still really like it.  It will be a staple in my beauty stash from now on as I like the slight exfoliation it provides (especially in summer when I shave more often), the wonderful scent, and the way it makes my skin feel.

I never even thought of buying this based on the name. I'll have to try it next time.
