I was never interested in LUSH Mange Too Massage Bar. It wasn't until a friend of mine asked me to buy one for her that I actually picked up Mange Too and checked it out. It smelled so delicious that I bought a one for her and one for myself!
Massage bars are solid blocks of skin conditioning ingredients like cocoa butter and shea butter that melt when they come into contact with warm skin. The idea is that they will "melt" onto skin and provide enough softness for someone to give their partner a massage.
Mange Too contains cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter, bananas, white chocolate, honey, peppermint oil, and sweet orange oil. Straight off of the LUSH shelf this bar smelled like a lovely sweet bar of gooey white chocolate with a dash of honey mixed in. I'm not normally a fan of sweet, foody scents but the fragrance was just too good to pass up...
...and then I used Mange Too. I rubbed the bar onto my skin right after my shower, but this product does not melt very easily. My body was warm but I still had to apply some pressure and go back and forth with it to get any of it onto my arms and legs. It was difficult to work into skin and left enough of a layer behind that I was actually afraid that it was going to stain my clothing. (It didn't.) Obviously, I attempted to use this product as a moisturizer since the chances of getting my boyfriend to give me a massage are slim and none. I can't imagine anyone trying to use it for massage purposes, though. It really requires that you put some muscle into the application and it doesn't really melt enough to provide the slickness required for massage.
For me, the biggest disappointment about Mange Too is the scent. The lovely, yummy white chocolate and honey fragrance changes into something very unpleasant once it actually gets onto your body. Other people have described it as "Play-Doh" and I'd have to say that really hits the nail on the head. I don't know why or how a product that's supposed to smell like white chocolate and honey actually smells like a child's toy, but it does. All of that lovely yummy sweetness completely disappears once Mange Too hits your skin and you're left smelling like Play-Doh for many hours after application.
A 3.5 ounce block of Mange Too costs $8.50 and will last you for quite awhile. I've been using it as a moisturizer each day after I get out of the shower for about a month now and I still have over half of the piece left. That being said, I am really sick of walking around smelling like Play-Doh and will probably just throw this massage bar away rather than use it all up. I don't recommend this product.
