For the first few months of my LUSH addiction, I did all of my shopping online through their company web site. I had browsed through the facial cleansers but, frankly, the picture of Aquamarina frightened me. It looked like some kind of petrified salmon sushi roll which just wasn't something that I wanted to rub across my face. Eventually I made my way an hour south to the LUSH shop in Atlantic City and had the opportunity to check everything out in person. Aquamarina looked much better in the store than it did on the web site so I bought myself a container to try.
This product comes in a moist roll of what looks like pink clay and is covered in fresh bits of seaweed. LUSH describes it as a nutritious, soothing, deep cleansing, and toning cleanser. It contains things like glycerine, calamine powder, clay, Irish moss infusion, aloe vera gel, seaweed, sweet orange oil, and, bizarrely, sea salt. Aquamarina smells like your typical clay mask but the seaweed scent is also very strong. I, personally, really like the way it smells but many people do not.
LUSH suggests that you mix a piece with some water in your hand and then spread the paste onto your face. I tried that method several times and wound up with pink colored water because the chunk of Aquamarina slipped out of my hand and fell down the drain. The best way that I've found to use this cleanser is to rinse off my face with water and then rub a bit of cleanser across it. You can create a pleasant, thin, pink layer of product as you wash your face.
LUSH Aquamarina costs $7.95 for 3.5 ounces. That amount of product will last for at least 2 months of daily use. This product is a great cleanser for me and my combination skin. My dry spots have become a bit more hydrated while my oily spots have dried out and calmed down some after regular use. I'm not really sure what the sea salt is supposed to do in this product because it isn't noticeable as an exfoliant. I'm guessing that it helps to dry out oily skin.
This is my favorite facial cleanser at the moment. It cleans, it hydrates, it soothes... it's pretty much perfect in my book. I've gone through 2 whole 3.5 ounce pots of this product and am now working on my third. It's THAT good.
