Back in 2001 I bought a complete line of L'Oreal makeup and within two days I discovered that I couldn't wear the eyeshadow. It had some sort of fragrance in it that irritated my eyelids and the skin literally peeled off. I knew it was the makeup because once I quit using it my eyes cleared up within days. I returned to my old faithful Clinique and was content for years. But then I bought a new home and decided that I needed to cut some corners and went back to my drugstore makeup versus the elite lines. I have done well until last week.
I was in need of eyeshadow and mascara. PattyTherre had posted an awesome review on the L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion mascara and I just knew I had to get me some. So while out hunting for that I checked out the eyeshadow. L'Oreal has a color line and the "For Brown Eyes" was beautiful. I remembered the problem I had with the eyeshadow several years ago but I just wanted to believe that was a fluke and I could try it again. So, I purchased the L'Oreal Wear Infinite Eye Shadow (Summer Dusk/508). This eyeshadow has soft shades of brown and khaki and slight hints of plum. You get four shades and they are beautiful. I paid $5.97 at Walmart and by the way, I couldn't find the L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion mascara. That will be in another review.
Saturday evening I'm getting ready for the Hallow-Him activity at my church. When I began to apply the eyeshadow I noticed my eyes got a little tingly and started to water and my first thought was, "Oh, no! Here we go again!" I finished my makeup and went on to church. I got a lot of compliments on my eyes because I had ventured out and wore all four colors so they stood out but not in a flamboyant way! Throughout the evening I paid attention to how my eyes felt and I thought I was going to be okay. But when I came home and started to take my makeup off I could tell that my lids were still tingling. Even makeup remover wipes for sensitive skin were "hurting" them. Sunday morning I wake up and my eyes are swollen something fierce. My left eye will barely open and both lids had scaly skin on them so I knew I had once again reacted to the makeup. It seems that L'Oreal has some sort of fragrance in the powder and people with sensitive skin or eyes can't handle it. I have even noticed it with the Voluminous Mascara when i first start a new tube but then I just ignore it because that is on my eyelashes so not really effecting my skin.
I am only giving the product 3 stars because I know that for whatever reason I cannot use it. I don't have a problem with L'Oreal skin care products, lipsticks, or mascaras per se. I've never tried blush so I'm not sure if I would have a similar reaction. After church on Sunday I went back to Walmart to get a refund on the eyeshadow and that was a blessing in disguise because after searching for a week there was the Telescopic Explosion Mascara!
The L'Oreal collection has a color line that you can coordinate all your makeup products with your eye color. I am always reluctant to go after the brown eyes or autumn colors because I don't care for earth tones as much as I love the plums and mauves. But I was pleasantly surprised to see that L'Oreal incorporates the plums into the brown eye collection. I think L'Oreal also does seasonal colors because when I was trying to find the primary photo for Summer Dusk I kept coming across the "For Brown Eyes" collection that was called Just My Imagination and it had a different number and the colors were more vibrant. So, I'm thinking they do a spring/summer shade and then a fall/winter shade.
I will still recommend the L'Oreal Wear Infinite Eye Shadow (Summer Dusk/508) because it is a beautiful color for someone who has brown eyes or who just likes those hues. I was also very impressed with the $5.97 price tag because I thought the L'Oreal makeup would be more expensive. If you have concerns about allergies or sensitivities to eye makeup I would recommend you purchase the product from a store that has a very good refund/exchange policy so that if you need to return it you can. I didn't have a problem getting my money back at Walmart. I let them know I had used the eyeshadow the night before but that due to eye sensitivity I couldn't continue to use it. They gave me a full refund without any problem.
