L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara —

L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara

I don't set high expectations on many mascaras no matter the brand, be it high end or drug store as there have been more flops than hits. Like many women, I have a bag full of tubes used a few times, tried again and set aside out of disappointment.

While giving it a fairly serious amount of consideration and after reading Patty Therre's dead-on review of L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara I decided to bite the bullet and give it a try. As I'm not a huge fan of L'Oreal mascaras I usually don't buy them.

I was totally intrigued with the spherical brush, was it going to apply the mascara easily or would this be a frustrating endeavour ?  Well, it was neither difficult nor frustrating to apply, it was actually a lot easier than I ever expected considering how different the application brush is. It's fairly small so it does reach all the tiny lashes without having to work too hard at it. I began by using somewhat of a windshield wiper motion and watched as my lashes came to life and suddenly looked much longer and fuller. I was careful to take my time but found that the brush is made in a way that you really do have to use it vertically for maximum results. It applied to my bottom lashes with a little more effort but the results were equally good.

The Mascara formula is not bad, it certainly does lengthen but  it didn't provide a tremendous amount of volume. Like Patty, I found that it does get a bit clumpy with use and I had to wipe the brush off once with a tissue before continuing. I found that 1 well applied coat was enough to achieve long, dark fringy eyelashes. I wanted to see if I could go a bit more dramatic and added another coat before the first dried, it added a bit more wow-factor and drama, a good look for an 'evening out'  face. I wouldn't venture to use a third coat as I could see it would make lashes look gloppy or clumpy defeating the entire purpose to begin with.

My overall take on L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara?  I think it's certainly worth a try, it stayed on until I took it off, I didn't see any flaking, I curled my lashes prior to application and it held the curl very well, it didn't make them droop which in my opinion is worth the price of admission.

I'm giving this product a strong 4-stars, aside from the clumping issue during use, and the fact that a little more volume would be nice, it's a good mascara that I will highly consider buying again. Thanks for  "taking one for team" Patty, you convinced me and now I'm a believer !

Thanks for the heads up on the CoverGirl LashBlast Length, I'm learning to stay away from the promises lol.

It is a bit scary at first but honestly, it's not all that difficult to use. The brush isn't hard and bristly like other brushes, it's much softer and actually gentle. If you do try it, just remember to apply vertically, this helps it apply correctly. best of luck and hope you like it too :)

I need a new tube, so I may venture out tonight to try this one. I have to admit, the brush scares me, since I like to just throw a few brush strokes out there and run, and this may add a little time to my routine!

Oh wait. I have a long yellow tube of mascara I recently bought. Hmm...now I have to see what it is. Yep! It's CoverGirl LashBlast Length and I don't like it much. I may have reviewed it already. I will have to check. It isn't as good as LashBlast and adds no volume at all.

I saw it at Ulta.com, it's the lengthening version and comes in a lonnngg yellow tube instead of the chubby one. It might not be in stores just yet but I'm sure it's coming....yet another to add to the bulging collection lol.

Oh no, another LashBlast? I wasn't too into the Luxe stuff. Is that the one you mean? I didn't see much difference between the regular and the Luxe and no shimmer or whatever. It was still good though.

Thought I'd let you know that Sephora is having a special on the Givenchy Phenome'Eyes
mascara, it comes with a Gloss Interdit in Rose Taboo as a set for $28. A little something extra to justify the cost of the mascara lol. You probably already know about it though but just in case....

Have a good evening :)

PattyTherre wrote on Nov 7, 2009 at 5:51PM

Thanks for the shout out. I am learning how to use this mascara every day and yes, the vertical brush approach seems to work best. I wonder if the Givenchy mascara is better? They started it with that little ball brush and I am so curious but I don't think I'm $28.00 curious. lol.
