I read PattyTherre's review on her mascara (read it here) and I fell in love with everything she said about it.  Many know that since joining Viewpoints every time I read a mascara review I will usually refer back to my wonderful L'Oreal Voluminous; which I had been using for about 2-3 years. You can read JasyJen's review on Voluminous here.   I never read any other reviews that made me say, "I've just got to have that mascara" until I read Patty's on the L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion.  Not only did I have to have it but I went on a journey trying to find it.  If you have read our comments during the past week you will see what I mean.

I started off at Walmart and found the L'Oreal Telescopic Original.  Don't pick this up thinking you are getting what Patty reviewed.  This is in a gold tube and has the standard brush.  The Explosion has a tiny ball-like brush and comes in a red tube.  I went to three Walmarts and couldn't find Explosion.  It was then recommended I try CVS and Rite Aid.  Well, I have a CVS and Walgreens near each other so I went to both.  They both had the Telescopic Original but not Telescopic Explosion.  So, I told Patty I would just give the money to my preacher's wife who uses Rite Aid and ask her to pick up the mascara for me.  Then I had to return my L'Oreal Infinite Wear Eye Shadow so I went to a fourth Walmart and lo and behold there was the Telescopic Explosion mascara!  I was able to get it for $7.97.

I got it Sunday and used it for three days so far and love it!  My eyelashes are short and thin.  You would think that with my Cherokee heritage I would have better eyelashes but I think it all went to my eyebrows instead.  I wanted the dramatic effects that Patty spoke of because I want people to see my eyelashes.  I thought I was going to have a difficult time applying the mascara with that little round ball-like brush but I didn't.

I like that you can go all the way into the tiniest lashes where your tear ducts are and hit those without smearing mascara on your eyes.  I did the horizontal sweep from tear duct out and then took the brush up vertically to spread the lashes and the effects were there.  I could see the tiny lashes starting to extend out and it looked like spider legs and I loved it.  I know most may not want that but when you feel as if your eyelashes are barely noticeable you want something to make them stand out.

I haven't had a problem with the clumping because I don't usually apply more than one coat.  I just try to fine tune what I have already put on.  In college a friend showed me how to use the tip of a safety pin very carefully to separate the lashes.  If I sense any degree of clumping I just pull out a toothpick or safety pin and separate the lashes and I'm good to go.

Another thing I like about the L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion mascara is that it gives the eyes the appearance of thicker and fuller lashes but the mascara itself doesn't wear like a heavy mascara.  Even with my Voluminous I could pinch my fingers together and tell that the mascara was pretty thick.  When I touch my eyelashes after applying the Telescopic Explosion I just feel a light feather-like eyelash.  And with this feather lightness comes the ability to remove the mascara in one clean sweep.  I loved my Voluminous but it was a chore to remove it thoroughly.  I would use makeup removers and oil-based eye makeup remover solutions from Mary Kay or Clinique and still every morning there would be slight residue from the mascara that I just didn't quite get off.  I haven't had that problem with the Telescopic Explosion.  I do my normal routine for removing my makeup and it is all gone!  The next morning there is no sign of any makeup from the previous day.

My only complaint doesn't effect the effectiveness of the makeup.  When you open the tube there is much resistance to remove the brush but that is a good thing as you know that you aren't going to pull a brush out with a large volume of mascara on it.  However, the handle appears to be a little too spindly and I always think I am going to break it trying to remove it from the tube.  With that little ball as your brush you don't have one end balanced out with the other so the handle appears to be awkward and more weighted on one end.

I am also using the Blackest black and love the effects.  As long as I can find this I will stick with it.  If down the road I am not able to find it then I think I will try the Telescopic Original.   Another plus for Patty's review: By the time I got my hands on the mascara several ladies at church knew I was looking for it and wanted to know what the big deal was about this makeup.  I took the mascara, package and all, to church Sunday evening and showed it to the small group I participate in before the evening service.  Several said they wanted to try it because just the product description and the look was enough to peack their interest.  Last night during choir practice I had two ladies tell me that they went out and got it and also loved it.  So Patty's review via word of mouth is already working!

Ha! Thank you for the shout outs! My sister Laurie loves this mascara but can't write a review yet due to being in a large neck brace but she plans to when she can. I use a lash comb if needed but I don't usually need it. I use the ball vertically to get to each lash and BOOM! Long lashes everywhere. Glad you like it. I know it's a bit dramatic but I like dramatic lashes.

In response to MRSverret's comment from Nov 5, 2009 at 11:13AM:

I'm not one to stock up on makeup. I buy makeup as I need it. It just so happened that when Patty posted her review I was in the need of eyeshadow and mascara so I was ready to try it. I was not disappointed.

Even though I just bought LashBlast Luxe I want this one now too. And I'm not one to have lots of make-up but this just sounds too cool!
