Quick View: If you have been wondering is the hype surrounding L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara was true, let me assure you, IT IS! I bought this mascara after discussing it with fellow beauty divas on the discussion boards and saying I would "take one for team" and try this mascara. I am so glad I did. It is amazing. VERY dramatic!

My Take on L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara

Hot on the heels of Givenchy's mascara with a little ball brush, L'Oreal made their own drugstore version. I thought the little ball brush looked ridiculous and could never give me the type of results I like. I have straight, thin lashes and I like drama. I want my lashes to be long, dark, full, and frame my eyes in a flattering way. Only a few mascaras have truly lived up to all my preferences. And truth be told, L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara doesn't completely live up to them either. It can clump after a couple of coats.

This mascara has a tiny ball-like brush the likes of which I had never seen before (until Givenchy introduced their pricey mascara with a similar brush). I shunned buying this mascara because traditionally L'Oreal eye products don't work well for me. I finally broke down and got some in Backest Black and put it to the test.

The little ball brush looks like it could kill me but, really, it's very easy to use. It does take a little extra time to apply the mascara to all lashes since the ball is so small but the results are worth it. After one coat, my lashes were so long that they looked fake. There were no clumps and I had volume. I should have stopped there but I tried a second coat and that produced some clumps and just too much overall drama. And this is coming from someone who longs for dramatic lashes.

With one coat, L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara lengthens more than just about any mascara I own. It adds volume. The brush gets into corners and on tiny bottom lashes and makes them long and dark. If I use just one coat, I don't get the spider leg look that I dread. If I use more coats, my lashes do start to look spidery so I will use one coat and be done with it.

This mascara is really amazing. I never expected the results I got. It certainly exceeded my expectations! The mascara didn't flake or run all day and came off with my usual cleanser.

It's REALLY good but really dramatic so, if you like just a bit of darkening and length, this mat be too dramatic for you. Also note that the little ball can get clumpy after a few uses so you may need to wipe it down now and then to avoid build up.

My Viewpoint

I really like L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara! the little brush is pure genius (stolen from Givenchy). It makes my lashes noticeably longer and darker. The ball brush gets to even the tiniest lashes with ease. The mascara adds volume as well although not quite as much as I would like. It doesn't clump unless you use two or three coats and then it does start to get a bit clumpy. You can use an eyelash comb or just stick with one coat. It's all you need! Amazing stuff, this L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara is. 4 stars. I would go with 5 but the clumping issue after a coat or two made me take a star off. But still VERY highly recommended for those who like really long, dramatic lashes.

I have a lash comb and use it if needed but if I am careful and apply just one coat, I don't need it. And wow, do my lashes get long!

If its thick and you do a thin coat that can be good. Cool. I'm going to try it.

Yes! I was wearing the mascara. I love it. It does have a tendency to clump but it's easy to fix with the brush. I love this mascara!

Try using the brush vertically. It is way less likely to clump and just use one coat. Your lashes looked great on Halloween. Did you use this mascara?

Use the brush vertically for no clumps. I just learned that as I played around with it. It's definitely not a quick mascara to apply. lol.

Some people will find it is clumpy. One coat is all that is needed and you're good to go.

scarywoodwitch wrote on Nov 3, 2009 at 1:43PM

I was thinking about it. Now I will take the plunge and do it lol!

I had to return some L'Oreal eyeshadow (more in review) and luck of the draw there was the Telescopic Explosion mascara. So after a trip to three different Walmarts I found it at a fourth. I used it for the first time this morning. I'll try to post a review in the next few days. Thanks for all the patience as I looked for it ;+)

Thank you for buying me this Mascara. I really love it. The round brush allows me to get every little lash that I normally can't reach. I do get a little clumping if I use too much but that only happens rarely. I will definiely keep using it.

This stuff is hard to find! I did notice that it will stick my lashes together if I overdo it so I only use one coat. That seemed to work best. Let me know if you eventually do get it.

GigiandAdonai wrote on Oct 31, 2009 at 7:53PM

I went to another Walmart, CVS and Walgreens and only found the original Telescopic so I'm going to give my pastor's wife the money tomorrow and see if she can find it for me at Rite Aid.

Givenchy started it all but L'Oreal ripped off the idea and I am sure more people will risk $9.00 on the mascara than $40 or whatever it costs for the Givenchy one. I wonder what they'll come up with next. I have had mascara brushes that weren't even brushes at all, just screws or similar to a screw, huge brushes, rubber ones, you name it. Next maybe we'll be a little triangular brush. lol.

That may be true lol. This new ball design is as adventurous as mascara gets. I have a feeling we'll see other companies coming out with their own versions soon enough as is often the case with many cosmetic items.
Isn't it amazing how a little thing like a good mascara can make so many women happy?? is that too much to ask?? lol

Well, I'm up at 5am lending a hand at the animal shelter again so It's off to bed I go. My eyes won't be looking pretty for all that fabulous mascara if I don't close them for a while.

Have a great night and a fabulous Halloween !!

Okay, I have CVS and Walgreens everywhere so I'll check the CVS tomorrow on the way to the church. Then perhaps I can wear it Sunday!! When I saw the original telescopic mascara I was beginning to think I had dreamt up the other product with the ball applicator. I kept going back to your review and staring at the picture and then back to Walmart. Thanks for the information. Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on some in the next few days. My preacher's family uses Rite Aid so if I can't find it I will give his wife the money and ask her to check out Rite Aid. Beware: Woman with a mission ;+)

I saw in online somewhere...maybe the L'Oreal website because I took some screen grabs of the pics but yeah it's still being distributed, I guess. I was surprised no one had it online. Maybe they don't have confidence that anyone will buy a ball shaped brush mascara. lol.

My sister used her tube I bought her last night and her lashes looked awesome. She has curly long lashes anyway but this made them huge. You just have to be careful of clumping.

By the way, CVS and Walmart carry it, Walgreens is yet to get it. I myself didn't see it on Drugstore.com.

ApriBambino wrote on Oct 30, 2009 at 9:20PM

THANK YOU for the thorough review of this mascara, I did purchase mine but haven't used it yet. After reading this, I can't wait to !!
I'm hoping it will work for me as it has for you.

GigiandAdonai wrote on Oct 30, 2009 at 9:00PM

Okay, I have been to 2 Walmarts and cannot find this mascara. I found a L'Oreal Original Telescopic mascara in a gold-like tube but I knew it wasn't the right one because it didn't have the ball it had the brush. Where did you buy yours? Please don't tell me you got it from Drugstore.com. I will check out our drugstores too.

I'm with you! My eyelashes are bearly noticeable so when I am dressed for work, shopping, a day with friends, etc. I want my eyes to stand out and I want people to know I have eyelashes. I'm definitely going to try this stuff. This might very well be my makeup wonder drug, woo hoo!!

It's very dramatic. It lifts lashes but I don't see a lot of curl. I wore it without curling my lashes or using primer and it was really good. But as I said, super dramatic. Some may think it's too much for day use but not me. I like really dark long lashes!

GigiandAdonai wrote on Oct 27, 2009 at 10:03AM

Okay, Ms. Patty, I think you have really sold me on a new mascara. I also have the thin, short eyelashes but long for long, dark, and if possible, curvy eyelashes. I have been swearing by L'Oreal Voluminous. I'm marking this as a favorite and when I go to buy new eyeshadow in the next week or two I'm getting this too. I hope I can apply it successfully and not come out looking like a battered woman!!

I know, the ball scared me to death. But it's really easy to use. I am buying another tube to have around. I am one of those who stock up on stuff I like. Bad habit. lol.

The ball looks crazy, but if YOU say it's good, it's good :)
