L.L. Cool J has always been in good shape, and to this very day he looks fantastic. When my husband saw L.L. on a couple different talk shows promoting his new book: Ll Cool J's Platinum Workout he wanted to get the book.
I told him I would get it for him, but I kind of choked when I saw the price. It was $27.99, Ouch! For most people that might not sound so bad, but for someone who sells used books like me and almost never pays retail, that hurt.
But the book is impressive. It is very large in size almost like a coffee table book.
L.L Cool J's Platinum workout written by LL and co-author, Dave Hong, additional assistance was provided by, Jeff O'Connell.
There is an introductory chapter where L.L. talks about his own history with body building, and his current attitutudes towards it. He also talks about his relationship with his own trainer, Scooter.
The book is intended to be used by both men and women and is separated in to 5 different sections or workouts so to say. Note: Some of the wording in this section is taken directly from the book.
The Bronze Body:
This is a 4 week beginner program. I say program because each of these sections also include nutritional information, and advice. This is the must read section of the book as it has a lot of information about things such as stretching, and nutrition. Things that you need to know and do in every section. Since he obviously doesn't want to have to repeat this information every section. He also provides meal plans and recipes in this section, as well as recipes scattered a bit throughout.
The Silver Body
You would begin this intermediate phase after completing the 4 week Bronze Body program. This is a 5 week program that will help you to increase your strength while maintaining your muscular and cardiovascular endurance.
The Gold Body
This is a 9 week program. By this point you are already doing pretty well this is the workout that really adds that extra intensity and really gets you to the maximum muscle building, and fat burning place.
The Platinum Body
The book calls this a 3 week fat torching program. This is the workout he did to get in fast shape for his video: Control Myself, where he wanted to be really ripped.
The Diamond Body
This program is specifically for the ladies. It is a 4 week quick shape up program.
The book is very nicely done. The best thing about it is that it has a lot of pictures that show you how all of the exercises are to be done. Many ladies will be happy to know that L.L. himself in all his muscular glory are in most of them. There is also a woman demonstrating some of the excerises as well. Some of the exercises will require a spotter (someone to help get you through a particular exercise, as you fatigue your muscles. They are also there for safety in case your body becomes to fatigued.)
Since most of the exercises require some kind of equipment so you will likely need to bring this to the gym with you, unless you have a decent amount of equipment yourself. This is what kind of makes the big size of this book not such a great thing, as you will need to carry it from machine to machine which may be a bit embarrasing.
Over all though this is an excellent book for anyone who is either inerested in begining weight training, or for someone who is looking for some tips to change up their own routines, or possibly go up a level.
The book is very informative, explains things well, and provides photos to demonstrate exercises, it also provides a lot of helpful additional information. I would highly recommend L.L. Cool J's Platinum Workout.
