LG WM2233H Front Load Washer —

I own a front load LG.  I have learned that it cleans the clothes, but after 6 months of use it gives the clothes a mildew smell.  We had a friend of ours that works on these washers check ours out.  (His family also owns the set!)  He told us that theirs smells the same way.  Not only does the tub stink, it makes the clothes stink. He said it is because it does not drain all the way and the water sets in the bottom.  Personally, I would rather have my old washer back.

Do a search for front loading washers, they all have the potential for this problem which is due to moisture left in the door gasket. I won't go into a solution because there are many combinations that work. Just do a search for front loading washer smells there is plenty of easy solutions. If you recently bought an LG, they have a section in their manual for prevention of this problem which is simply wiping the moisture out of the door seal when finished washing and leaving the door ajar for a while. However once you have the smell, you need solutions for that first: therefor "The Goggle Search". You will be able to pick from a varied list and find which one is best for you and your friend. Remember all front loaders have this problem.

I really like my LG, but there is a smell that does accumulate after several washings. I had a service repairman look at it and here is what he told me to do. (He owns the same machine that I have and he found this to work) He said since front load washers use less water, the inside drum does not have a chance to clean itself from bacteria which sticks and builds up over time. Once a month run a cycle - no clothes - with hot water and use Cascade Dishwashing Detergent. Be careful not to use too much detergent. This will clean the drum and the inside of the washer from all that nasty build up. The first time you do this, you will most likely have to do this twice - 2 to 3 weeks apart depending on how long you've had your washer.

I run this cycle now once a month to try and maintain a clean drum. The other thing that I find helpful is to periodically drain the excess water from the drain filter. This is especially helpful if it has been a few days in between washes. The manual tells you how to do this.

If you don't clean the drum that bacteria/mold smell will eventually settle into your clothes - I am just glad this recommendation was made to me before that happened. Just an added note - I wasn't charged for the service call.
