Pros- solid build, 3G, intuitive interface, decent call quality, nice camera for a phone
Cons- low ringer volume, Can't use full length mp3's as ringtones, will randomly power itself off.
I've had my Lg shine since April 08. I spent several weeks reviewing various phones before I decided on this one. I mainly use it as a phone and occasionally take pictures and text with it.
The shine rarely drops calls and has good signal in my day to day locations. My biggest complaint has always been the ringtone volume. I semi-frequently miss calls in my car and other slightly noisy areas because the ringer is just too low even at max volume. Definitely not a phone for anyone with hearing problems. Call volume isn't a problem.
Another complaint is that you can't use full length mp3's as ringtones. The only reason for this is that it's programmed into software presumably at the request of service providers who want to charge outrageous amounts for snippets of songs. There's a way to get around that limitation(which you can find on youtube and other sites) which proves there's really no good reason for it to be there in the first place.
The last major complaint is that it randomly powers off. This is merely irksome to me since I check my phone often for the time, but a co-worker with the Shine had his power off frequently while answering calls. He had recently gotten a replacement before switching services so I'm not sure if his second one had the same problem. A rep told him it had something to do with moisture getting into the body of the phone and causing problems.
I've spent the majority of the review discussing the negatives, but in general I'm happy with this phone. I keep looking but I haven't found a perfect phone for me, and this will do fine for now.
