I REALLY wanted a bottom freezer refrigerator for a very long time and actually couldn't wait for the day when we needed a new fridge. When our old fridge finally gave out, we decided to head over to Sears to see what they had. Of course, they have lots of refrigerators to choose from. Our kitchen and the space for a fridge is quite small, so we were limited in our choices. We made sure to measure our old fridge (height, width and depth) and the space around it so we wouldn't get anything that wouldn't fit.
We've had our new fridge for about 4 months and love it. It's quiet and pretty. The handles are easy to grip and they open and close easily. The shelves are also well thought out. I had to lower one of the shelves inside the refrigerator to make a taller shelf for a couple of taller items we typically have, such as a carafe of cold water and a large container of Crystal Light drink. We keep the milk container in the door. I love the door shelves because they are wide and hold a lot! We store lots of condiments in the doors, but also have one shelf for the things we use the most. There is a small shelf at the top of the door with a clear lid for dairy items, where we keep butter.
There are also three deep drawers with see-through fronts, two of which are side by side for lettuce or other fresh veggies and fruits. They are slightly below eye level, so it's easy to see what's in them. At the front of the two drawers are two small humidify controls, which are little vents, to allow for air to circulate into the drawers by flipping the vents open.
As I said, I'm thrilled having the freezer portion at the lower part of this unit. I use the freezer much less than I use the fridge, so it makes so much sense for us to have purchased a bottom freezer refrigerator. By grabbing the handle to the freezer, the door swings open to the left (or right depending on which set up works for your kitchen). You have two shelves, which are 'Wire Durabase', but the lower one is more of a basket drawer you can pull out. The top shelf has an ice maker, also a dream come true for us, since we have never had one in our home with our old fridge. We can hear the ice cubes dropping into the basket inside the freezer, but this is not overly loud at all.
The exterior of this fridge is really nice also because the top and side are all textured, so they don't show fingerprints at all. I've wiped it off once so far, after it was delivered and there were a few smudges from the delivery guys. Everything came off easily. The color we have is white. I asked for "bisque" (off-white), but for this particular model, that color is not available. While this was done, the door was opened for a few minutes. There is an alarm that sounds when either the refrigerator or the freezer doors are left open for more than one minute. It's not a loud alarm at all, just more of a high pitched beep. This is good because I have occasionally left the door of the fridge slightly without realizing it.
There is a warning not to block any of the cooling vents inside both the refrigerator and freezer to ensure proper air flow and consistent cooling temperatures. Of course, there are seven temperature controls from 32 degrees to 47 degrees Fahrenheit for the fridge and negative (-)6 to 8 Fahrenheit for the freezer portion.
We all love our beautiful new refrigerator, especially me. I didn't expect to be so thrilled with a new fridge, but I am. I don't have to bend down to search for foods anymore. Also, this fridge is 19.7 cubic feet and our old one was around 16, so we've gained a lot more interior space, which is wonderful.
We paid $749 for our new LG Bottom Freezer Refrigerator -- With tax and delivery, the total came to a little less than $1,000. We really got exactly what we wanted. I expect this refrigerator to last our family at least 15 years.
