Bought this phone for use of family member coming into the US and his cell phone would have been very expensive to use (all calls would show as coming from his home country). This basic phone worked just great to make the calls he needed to make while in the US. Added minutes to it after buying it on a prepaid plan and it worked out great for him. Would recommend this for anyone who wants just a basic phone without high monthly costs.

I am not the type of person that really needs a fancy smart phone. I used this one for a while because of the price. The fact that irt was a flip phone shpould have drove me away because over time the screens dont work because of the wire conection gets all messed up after constantly opening and closeing the phone. although these phones are great when you figure out its not possible to "pocket-dial" anyone. O reccomend this phone to people like construction workers whom would usually keep their phone in their pockets.

My husband and I switched over to Tracfone last fall after our Verizon Wireless bill just got to be too crazy. We are saving so much money with the Tracfone program I can't believe we didn't switch over sooner. And the cost of the LG420G itself with the double minutes for life guarantee? That sold us. This phone doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it has enough. There's a camera, and that's the main "extra" I wanted so I could take pictures of my little girls. You can also surf the "web," but it's so difficult to surf the web on a phone like this that it's hardly worth the time it uses. I like the convenience of being able to add minutes to your plan from your phone. And I really love the fact that you are not tied down to any contract. We could switch to another wireless carrier any time we want to. We also have never had any major reception issues. Sometimes service will be unavailable, but it's very rare. In my opinion, Tracfone is one of the best wireless companies out there, and this phone is great, too. Apparently a lot of other people think so too because we had to go all over the city looking for this phone. You can buy it online, though, too, if you want to.

I just recently purchased the LG 420G flip phone from the Tracfone website. So far, I am quite pleased with this phone. I decided to upgrade to this phone when my ancient Motorola Tracfone began to go down hill. After that phone, I find the LG 420G to be a nice change. I don't find it very difficult to learn to use and have so far not had any complaints. It has a nice bright screen that is fairly easy to read. The phone has good volume and sound. I did have some difficulty with having sound to tell me I received a text message. I played with the sound menu a little, not really changing anything, and now it seems to be working. I am still unsure as to why the phone was not vocally alerting me to a message but I have had no problems since. I believe this would be a good phone for your teen or pre-teen as well. I allowed my 12 year old son to use the phone and he took to it right away. Overall, I am very pleased with the LG 420G flip phone.

Ohhhh if I had only fed THIS phone to the dog! Seriously, leaning over to give the dog her Nylabone (the WHITE chewy) my old flip phone fell out of my pocket (the BLACK chewy obviously) and as I walked away I heard a decidedly unusual ~~~CrUnCH~~~ sound that spun me around.   Sadly the phone didn't survive :( Thinking I'd like to have a clamshell with a front display of the time I purchased the LG420G and I can't honestly say there's much of anything I like about it.   It's fairly thin and lightweight but the top and the bottom are so similar in look/feel that opening it in the dark is problematic (no notch of any kind).  The lighting feature (my primary use of a cell phone is as a WATCH/ALARM CLOCK) button is recessed into the side....that's great...but in an identical fashion to the power port cover on the opposite side.  Again, difficult to find in the dark (hence wanting a light!).  Worse, and the most problematic...even with powersave mode on, if a message comes through, or your alarm goes off the light comes ON and stays on.......bye bye battery!!  After either event to get the light to go completely off you have to cycle power on and off (WHAT a PAIN LG!). Reception is really not a product of the phone as much as the provider but good or not I like to have the ability to readily swap the call to speaker....not available that I've found.    Really, sadly, there's not much of anything I like about this phone.
