What's not so great: Unusually short shelf height
I recently bought a house with smooth finish GE appliances, minus the refrigerator. GE model refrigerators that matched the finish were approximately $100-$200 more expensive than this attractive option from Samsung. In general it functions as I think a refrigerator should - you simply don't notice it.
However, there are a few things I recommend you consider before you purchase this refrigerator. The bottom freezer door must swing past 90 degrees in order for the shelves to roll out properly. If you plan on placing this unit against a wall, take this into consideration and reverse the door swings. When operating, the ice maker can be so loud as to be startlingly disruptive. I solve this problem by turning it off when I am at home and occasionally turning it on when I leave for work. This is accomplished with the push of an exterior button. Lastly, the arrangement of the shelves at the interior of the refrigerator is unusual. Although it does not lack for space, the way it is apportioned creates the appearance of a crowded refrigerator. Trying to store large bottles of wine that were previously opened is somewhat precarious, although this is a common problem in many refrigerators. The high, central placement of the deli drawer can make removing a desired lunch meat or cheese a guessing game for shorter people. I am 5'9" and - on occasion - have difficulty obtaining my desired selection. The space beneath the deli drawer is essentially wasted unless you happen to keep wraps on hand. As luck would have it, I do.
Despite my honest criticisms above, I am quite happy with the refrigerator. I have had cause to use the flash freeze and flash cool features exactly once. They were effective and did not produce any noticeable increase in sound. The digital readout is attractive in an understated way and provides a calm assurance during a 3am fridge raid in a darkened kitchen that the refrigerator and freezer are at 38 degrees and -2 degrees respectively. Lastly, the knowledge that the unit is energy star certified was an essential selling point for me. I recommend this efficient, quiet and attractive refrigerator as strong value for the purchase price.
