We do not have central heating and air conditioning, poor us. Oh well, we do have things set up so that the house is comfortable for most months of the year. We don't believe it's good for your health to have this perfectly-controlled climate through artificial means anyway. One of our handy little gadgets to achieve a certain level of comfort is this Goldstar window air conditioner. It is a smaller unit, easy to install. And brilliant move, they give you a remote for it! Although small, this a/c puts out cold air like there's no tomorrow! It really performs and makes the room perfectly comfortable on even the hottest of summer days. You can set the temperature, there's an energy saver switch, there's also a timer. We recommend this company and this item.

Before we lived in a townhouse, we lived in an apartment that had no central air conditioning. The building was older, and the living room and main bedroom had through wall units for air conditioning. The one in the bedroom was very small, and not very good, and eventually broke. Because our landlord was so lax about replacing it, we went out and bought our own window unit. We didn't want to spend a lot of money and didn't need a super powerful unit - this was just to tide us over until the landlord got around to fixing or replacing the wall unit. For the price and size, it worked great, and we ended up using it for two summers while we lived in the apartment. It kept our bedroom nice and cool, and it was worth blocking the single window in the room to have comfortable temperatures. The unit installed easily though it is heavy- my wife would not be able to install it herself. It's fairly sturdy and cooled the 10x13 room quickly. It's not too noisy, but it did rattle a little bit, and occasionally we'd have problems due to condensation. We couldn't figure out if it was the unit itself that wasn't configured correctly, or the building was having settling problems, but we tilted the unit just slightly back in the window to allow the water to drain outside and the problem was solved.

This is a pretty good air conditioner that I used for about two years and it worked well the whole time. Installation was very easy and straightforward. It didn't take long to attach the side panels, pop the unit into the window and fill in the cracks with the included insulating foam strips. Once I had the unit installed, I set the fan to high on the coldest setting and it didn't take long at all to cool down my room which was a pleasant surprise. Even more surprising was that after a short time I was even getting a little chilly and had to adjust the temperature. I also like that after the cooling cycle turns off, the fan continues to run to circulate the air in the room. As for the negatives, I may have gotten a bad model but this unit is loud. When it's just the fan it's quiet but when the cooling kicks in, not so much. Also, the water doesn't seem to drain well from the unit so a decent amount of water collects inside. Overall, this air conditioner cools the room and cools it quick and I would recommend it if you don't mind the noise.

I was really impressed with this model. It is smaller than other models (like my old Sharp AC). But don't let its size fool you. This baby can really cool a room off. I mostly run it on low fan 4 cooling setting. Anything more than that and it will get to cold for me and I love the cold. I would highly recommend this product to someone like me that detests hot, humid weather of the Summer. The great thing about this unit also is that when the coolant is not on-the fan still is. So it still circulates the cold air that was earlier generated. I have always appreciated Goldstar products because they are high in quality and reasonably priced. Why spend more money on another branss unit when the Goldstar can do the job just as well as the more expensive brands? The Goldstar air conditioner is a true exsception the the old adage "You get what you pay for". Instead you pay for a bargain and actually buy a premium product. -SmartShopper

I've had my GoldStar air conditioner for, say, eight years now, and for being that old it works like the beaut I knew when my mum bought it. It doesn't shake up the whole house from ricochet like many other air conditioners I've seen, and it pummels the cool air I so desire in the warm summer months out into my whole house. That's pretty good for it having a vent that I can almost cover with the both of my hands. I love that I don't have to waste electricity keeping it on all day. Just plug it in when I get home, turn it on high, and I get summer relief in a matter of minutes! And with power comes flexibility - I can angle the vent around so it can blow on me when I'm up and working in different areas. As far as function goes, well, it's huge, but find a good-sized window and you're good to go; fits nicely in a proper space. And fashion? Doesn't jut out too far, and a nice white, the standard for any AC. Just keep in mind that this is above standard - for its eight years, this AC is supreme.
