Overview:
I recieved a LG Fusic packaged with a plan, and it turns out it is certainly a reliable phone. To start, it doesn't feel cheap and poorly construced; rather, it has a nice sturdy feel, and doesn't feel like it's going to break if you flip it open quickly. My phone has survived quite a few drops too, and not from waist height either, mind you. The keypad is well laid out, and is still easy to operate for people with big hands like myself, but It becomes slightly difficult to press the buttons while wearing gloves. The interchangeable faceplates are also a very nice touch. Overall, it's a nice phone to look at, and it's easy to hold and use.
Menu & Music:
The menu and interface are pretty intuitive and simple to use, with a lot of customizable options. The only thing I'd say I didn't like about it was the lack of MP3 ringtones. For a music phone, you'd think they'd have MP3 ringtones. However, that said, the built in speaker does a decent job of playing music externally, with clear treble tones and fair amounts of bass for the size of the speaker. The packaged head-phones are mediocre, if you're used to Bose quality sound, then quite honestly you won't want to use them. Unfortunately, the phone doesn't use a standard 3.5mm jack, so if you want to use your high-end headphones, you'll have to purchase an adapter, which can be acquired for ~$10. For a music phone, you'll have to purchase a Micro-SD Card if you really want to hold a lot of high-quality songs. The internal memory of the phone simply doesn't cut it for audiophiles. However, with memory cards becoming increasingly cheaper, that shouldn't discourage you from purchasing this phone.
Camera & Calling:
The camera is fairly decent as well, giving what you'd expect from a 1.3 Mpx Cell Camera, but nothing stellar to speak of. The external camera button is located nicely on the side of the phone, not in the way at all, I found. As for the sound quality of conversations, I foudn them to be quite clear and consistent, but that might depend on your service provider. Never had a dropped call before.
Conclusion:
It's a quality phone, really. Although compared to all the fancy 3G IPhones and whatnot, these days if you're looking for a lower end but reliable phone that's value for money, definetely have a look at the LG Fusic. Four starts because it's not perfect, but then again, something only deserves five stars when it has absolutely no flaws or cons, a statement which few products can truly make.
(On a side note though, if you're looking for the best phones on the market, check out NTT DoCoMo's 906 series. They make the IPhone look pathetic.)
