So Far So Good.

5

We purchased this washer along with the matching dryer about 3 weeks ago. So far it seems to be working great. This is the first front load washer I've had so I'm getting use to all the options. I have to keep the manual out on the washer so I can reference it when I'm deciding what options to use. The washing time is a little long on some of the loads that I do often but that doesn't matter to me. There is a ton of room in this thing. It has a load sensory to tell you how full it is and even when I think I have it packed it tells me it's a medium load. It plays a little song when the load is complete that's kind of annoying but that's not a deal breaker either. I still have a lot to explore but so far it's exactly what I was looking for.

This washer can do it all!

I have loved this washing machine. It is quiet which is such a nice change from my older model top loader. It gets my clothes clean and has so many wash options so that I can throw anything in there. it has really helped with stain removal as well. I love that I can choose the soil level and the spin speed along with the water temp. I feel like my clothes are staying in better condition after switching to this machine as well. Additionally, I have done a tub clean or two and have checked the filter multiple times. It has always been clean. I have had no issues with odor from the door and have no complaints about my washer at all! It has been a great purchase!

Gets clothes clean, breaks easily.

This is a good washer. It gets your clothes very clean and it is intuitive to use. However, in just under 2 years we've had the need for 2 part replacements already. One because the display board wouldn't work and one leak at the cold water input. We do about 5-8 loads a week, which is a lot but I still think it should have made it further than that. The cleaning times seem long (minimum hour) but this is the only front loader we've owned, so maybe that's all of them?? I'm glad the clothes get clean, we use less water and energy but I am disappointed in the durability and cycle time. Energy Efficiency Good, would be better if they could cut cycle times. Cleaning Time Not sure if 60+ minutes is normal on front loaders, but that's this one... Performance Clothes are clean, gets unbalanced easily though with blankets. Ease of Use Buttons are clear and easy to use. Design Nice enough, nothing uber special. Durability Meh, 2 parts in 2 years... not loving that.

Great washer - be careful not to move it!

We really like this washer. We switched from a top load washer to this front load washer. It was spendy, but I think it was worth it. It is easier to reach in and get the clothes out this way. The washer has a lot of lights and buttons - we call it our spaceship washer, since it glows and lights up! This washer has a load sensor to determine the amount of clothing in it and then adjust the water level - I'm not sure that it actually makes much of a difference. All of our loads end up running the same amount of time with around the same amount of water. The time of the loads is rather long, but the clothes come out really clean. We have noticed that any dog hair builds up on the clear front piece and get trapped along the rubber seal at the mouth of the washer. The machine doesn't take much detergent and sometimes it doesn't use all of the detergent that is poured in - I'm still working on determining the exact amount. One minor problem is the bearing of the machine. We moved it once and after that it was not very stable. The machine would spin and rock around a bit. We tried moving it and adjusting the feet pieces and that helped a bit - would recommend to be careful bumping it or moving it! Otherwise, very pleased with this washer.

Ruins clothes!

1

I bought both washer and dryer and have only had them about 2 months and all my clothes started smelling like mildew, and the dryer started turning off in the middle of the cycle. I am not happy at all with these, I never had the mildew smell with my 10 year old washer and within 2 months all of my clothes are ruined. Wahser model is WM2140C* and dryer is either DLE2140, DLE2240, DLG2141 or DLG2241

Energy-efficient front loader

5

After using a top-loader washing machine for many years, it was wonderful to switch to an energy-efficient front loader that is gentler to fabrics and uses less water and soap than a traditional top loader.  I also purchased the matching dryer and pedestal units that fit underneath the machines.  This washer runs very quietly and has many program options.  I love that it can't spin out of balance like my old top loader sometimes did.  This is a minor item, but 3 of the factory pre-set controls don't indicate how much time the cycle will take until the machine is turned on, whereas the other settings do.  Also, I'd prefer if more programs were set to run by default on cold water wash instead of warm water to save on energy costs.  This is my first time buying LG appliances so I didn't have prior experience with the brand, but the company seems to have a good reputation for washers & dryers.

gets clothes clean, but.....

I own a front load LG.  I have learned that it cleans the clothes, but after 6 months of use it gives the clothes a mildew smell.  We had a friend of ours that works on these washers check ours out.  (His family also owns the set!)  He told us that theirs smells the same way.  Not only does the tub stink, it makes the clothes stink. He said it is because it does not drain all the way and the water sets in the bottom.  Personally, I would rather have my old washer back.

It's OK, but not all it's cracked up to be

I shopped around and did my homework before I bought my new washer and dryer. I wound up choosing the LG front loader. It uses less water and is easy to use, but I find that it doesn't get the white clothes truly clean, even in hot water with bleach. My whites have turned to grays. Another problem that has been "minor" so far is that it turns off in the middle of the wash cycle with some sort of error code that tells you to contact the company. Fortunately, the solution is to unplug the machine and allow it to reset itself, then plug it back in. Unfortunately, you have to re-wash that load, because it's been sitting in dirty water for who knows how long. Mine has developed a little leak that looks like it comes from the soap dispenser, which runs down onto the hinges of the door, resulting in some corrosion and making it harder to open the door all the way. When it's time to buy a new washing machine, I will still look for a front loader, but not an LG.

Great washer, energy efficient and gets clothes really clean.

I love my LG. When I first had it installed (by the store), it was on a pedastal and walked all over the room (the floor wasn't totally level). We returned the bottom drawer part and they re-leveled it. No walking anymore! No noise - it is so quiet we often start it as we go to bed. (2nd floor laundry room with 2nd floor bedroom right next door) I could never do that with my old washer - it would keep us awake until it finished! I always find something else to put in the machine, as soon as I start it. There is no way to open it to add anything, once you have pushed the start button. :( I was told by the installer that loads that are too small (like a little load of delicates) should not be done, always wait for a full load. Then I read it in the owners manual that little loads should wait for a full load, too. I really don't like my underwear in with eveyone's jeans; but so far they seem to be doing OK. Overall, I love this machine and sure wish I had a more level floor so that I could have keep the bottom drawer.

It generates its own electricity!

5

This LG washer costs more than a regular top-loading washer, but it is definitely worth the extra investment.  Not only will you feel good about yourself for using this washer (it uses much less water, it clean extremely well with cold water, and it generates its own electricity), you will also save tons of your precious time!  I can fit almost twice as much laundry into this washer as I could fit in my regular top-loader.  And even though I am putting more clothes into the washer, they are coming out cleaner.  Along with the regular wash cycle, I frequently use the sanitizing cycle (particular good when children are sick).  I also use the hand wash cycle very regularly and have had no problems washing my "hand-wash only" clothes with that cycle.  I also use the short wash cycle on occassion (30 minutes as opposed to the regular 60 minute cycle).I have not had problems with the washer shaking during the spin cycle - however, you *must* balance the washer or it will shake like crazy.  When you first install the washer, you should assume that it is not balanced and will vibrate. The only thing I do not like about this washer is that it defaults to a warm water setting for the regular wash cycle.  And when my biggest complaint is that I have to push a button a few times before I can start the washer, I think that speaks volumes about the quality of this machine.
