Most HelpfulSo, like just about every other gadget junkie, I lusted for the iPhone when it came out. Sure, the Edge Network speed just didn't cut it, but it had Wi-Fi. The deal breaker for me of course was the AT&T Network in general. I mean while I thought the features were cool, I sometimes rely on my cell phone to make...phone calls! Funny, I'm feeling a Lewis Black moment coming over me.
Here in my part of South Florida the absurdity of mating an iPhone with the AT&T network could be visually best illustrated by two iPhone owners connected by a long string. OK, Lewis Black moment fading and...

With that out of the way, here's the pros and cons:
Pros
"I DARE you to touch one." What a clever advertising slogan! The LG Dare is so well rounded and so much fun to use. The keypad offers sound or touch sensations when buttons are being pressed, as well as a lock feature. The keyboard can be used as a traditional texting format in either Abc, Word, 123, or Symbols; or it can be flipped on its side where it automatically converts to a keyboard format. There is also a drawing feature so that you can write out the numbers you wish to dial or the text you wish to send. My favorite of all is the Drawing Pad. It is so fun and creative! I can create...

The touch screen is very user friendly. Regardless of its size, the qwerty keyboard is responsive and with some adaptation becomes an efficient method of texting. The web browser can be slow, but if you only use the web for easy searches and not accessing web pages that require unique processes then this is a feature that will be handy. Verizon is updating the ability of users to access what they want on the internet, such as email. With the new applications...

I basically wanted an up-to-date phone, which to me, meant with a touch screen. The other option I had was a blackberry, which required a $30/mo. upgrade in my service plan. I wasn't willing to pay that. The LG dare offered me the features I needed; text, email access and the touch screen I was looking for. To access my emails was only a $15/mo. upgrade to my plan.
The touch screen qwerty key board can be a bit glitchy at times, but I can live with that.
I originally wanted the Blackberry Storm, but learned about an extra $35 a month just to have the phone, I was told the dare was pretty much the same. This phone is great. The only problem I've had with it is it freezes sometimes, but very rarely. Mostly when saving a picture, but like I said, it very rarely happens. It's a great touch screen phone though. I'd advise getting a screen protector for it also.
I have had the LG DARE/VX9700 touch screen phone for over a month now and it is a great phone and certainly the best touch screen Verizon has to offer and a great alternative to an iphone over on that other network AT&T. Remember you will need phone plan, internet plan, picture/text plan and they have many to choose from. Myself I went alacart and chose specific things I wanted and know I would use and it cost me less than several of the packages offered. NOTE: This is not a SMARTPHONE, it doesn't promote itself that way but some may expect that and it is not.
Side note for comparisons:

You choose the shortcuts you want to have on it. I love this feature. No more searching through menus. Everything I was it one touch away. I could never go back to a regular phone now. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera. It take beautiful pictures outside. Just as clear as any comparable digital camera. It is still good in artifical light, but you definitely loose some clarity. It has a flash, but the flash it too bright and...

I was originally interested in the iPhone but at the time, the LG Dare was a serious contender in price, size, and capabilities. Added to that the fact that I absolutely LOATHE AT&T, the Dare was what I went with.
There are only 3 buttons on the front--dial, power, and one I can't remember because my phone is on the other side of the room :) Everything is touch screen, including the QWERTY keyboard.
The phone has a vibrate mode (which is customizable to a point) for when you use the touch-screen, so you can tell...
