LDS5811 dishwasher SO-SO at best

1

We bought our LDS5811 stainless in Jan 2008. Right away we noticed it did a poor job of cleaning and drying dishes - STRIKE 1 Our first problem happened just after the warranty expired when the heating element went out. Now get this part - LG built the element into the pump so that to replace the element, we had to replace the entire pump assembly! STRIKE 2 In early 2014 the switch stopped working. Fortunately I was able to buy a replacement online - ALMOST STRIKE 3 Over time we learned that to get clean and dry dishes we had to run the longest cycle possible and remember to push the sanitary button to activate a longer dry cycle. This is the 2nd LG product I have purchased and been dissatisfied with, do not plan to buy another without very very compelling reasons. Cleaning Time takes over 3 hours to run a complete cycle. Design Heating element in the pump caused a problem (see review).

clean this machine regularly: mold warning

I'm not exactly sure how to rate this dishwasher. If I were to have rated it years ago it would have been a 1 - very poor. The past month or so it would have gone up to a 2. Now I've left it at a possible 3-4. (4 being good). Within the 30 day warantee period it broke, and required a new pump. The LG customer service and the LG repair men were all difficult to work with. When the error code pointed to it needing a new pump, the LG people seemed to think it was not possible, since LG appliances are supposedly so great. After some hassle we got the pump replaced. A few months later it started to die a very slow, strange death. (Weird noises, smoke, electrical issues etc.) However, recently we discovered that it somehow came back to life and started working again, albeit with a few issues. WELL - the latest is that this morning I happened to look down at the drain area and it looked pretty cruddy. On a while I took apart the filter and drain and was completely horrified to see the WORST black mold problem I have ever seen. It coated the parts with layers of thick black mold. When I inspected the rest of the washer, I noticed that there was mold coming out of the spray arms as well. It was absolutely disgusting. (By the way, the LG peeps told us that it was unecessary to clean a dishwasher, and we were just about laughed at when I asked them if we were supposed to.) YES you do need to clean your dishwasher. I will be running a dishwasher cleaner through now monthly, and thoroughly inspecting it for mold from now on. (I took apart and scrubbed and bleached every stinking part in this dishwasher, ran it through two cycles of bleach and one cycle of baking soda and vinigar. It now sparkles and runs like a charm.) Oh - the only other thing that drives me nuts is that the wheels to the dishwasher racks keep popping off - for the price of this thing you'd think that it would not be an issue!!!

manufacured to look good but very low quality internals

The unit had minor problems from day one, but you work around them. The electronic panel in the door toasted, and was replaced under warrenty. After installation, LG's recommended technician could not get the motors and pump running. Factory refused to replace the parts under the same warrenty even though THEIR service department determined that the entire production run was defective due to the wire insulation coat emitting a vapor when warm that caused serious corrosion to the moror and pump's armature/commutator wires. Having had many phone conversations with their service people and up to the "Executive Services" department, I still could not get the problem resolved. "You have to buy a new dishwasher" is all you could interpert from conversations with LG people. They have an attitude like the Victorian era Robber Barons "The Public be Damned" ! What next ? Any other brand but LG !

Over-priced, inferior product

1

I have an LG dishwasher Model # LDS5811ST. It's a beautiful appliance but, unfortunately, looks aren't everything and believe me - in this instance I paid more and got less. Shortly before the expiration of my manufacturer's warranty, my dishwasher stopped cleaning the dishes. The piece of plastic that the bottom spray arm attached to became warped and got hung up on the bottom basket and the dishes were not getting cleaned. I called LG and was given a repair service to call. That repairman was on vacation so they gave me 3 other repair services to call. When I called the first number, the telephone had been disconnected; the second one no longer serviced LG products (bad sign), and the third came out. I never heard from him again and he never put in for repair part/parts. I felt the design was defective because nothing in a dishwasher should warp. Then, I called LG again and another repairman came out and, once again, nothing. The third person they gave me made an appointment and never showed up or called. Two and a half months and approximately 35 phone calls/e-mails later, they finally agreed, in writing, to "buyback" the appliance. When I called them to arrange the pick-up of the machine, they said the letter was sent in error and I would be compelled to accept an exchange of the same model, which I fervently believe is defective. I am now going to be stuck with an applicance is inferior. From my perspective, LG appliances are inferior and their response to problems are slow and ineffective. Also, if you are contemplating purchasing an LG electric range, I have a comment on this website about a DEFECTIVE LG electric range I purchased a couple of months after the dishwasher which also took a lot of effort to resolve. I would not recommend LG products to anyone because "Life is NOT Good" with LG.

Poor cleaning in spite of long cycle time

2

I've had a similar experience to many other reviewers. This dishwasher does not really clean very well, in spite of the fact that even the basic wash cycle is a TWO HOUR cycle!!! I don't remember any other dishwashers I've ever owned running for 2 hours unless they were on the potscrubber cycle. I thought I upgraded when I bought this but would now love to have my basic Kenmore back. Cleaning Time Two hour, five minute cycle time! Loading Flexibility The dividers in the bottom rack are tilted at such angles that you can really only fit plates in one section and bowls in the other, and too bad if you have more of one than the other.

Life is not good with LG dishwasher LDS5811

1

We purchased this dishwasher in mid 08 but have not been happy with it since the beginning.  The top rack does not hold the glasses very securely.  They fall over quite easily or bang against one another when you push the rack back in. We often have problems sliding the bottom rack back in.  It comes off the track so easily.  Heaven forbid if you fill the soap dispenser to the top.  It will be a clumpy mess after the cycle finishes.  We often have soap particles on our glasses too.  I am sorry I ever bought this and will think twice about an LG appliance again.  We had a Kitchen AId prior to this and it did not have any of these problems.

LG = GARBAGE

1

We've had this diswasher installed in two different houses. The first with city water and now with well water. This dishwasher hasn't cleaned a dish since day one. A month after it was installed the clips broke that hold the tines in place. Couldn't get a response from LG for replacement. A month later the wheels on the racks started to break. It constantly rolls off the tracks and runs for three hours. I've read other posts where the water isn't heating to a high enough temperature. I thought I was nuts. Glad my sanity is in tact. I have an LG french door refrigerator that needed the icemaker replaced in the first 30 days and parts have been breaking on that as well. I will NEVER buy another LG product! Total and complete GARBAGE and I can't wait to find replacements I can afford. When I do I'm hauling these to the scrapyard. At least I'll get something back for all the aggravation.

NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR ENERGY

1

This dishwasher looks great. The exterior is stainless and very clean lines. The problems start with the stainless being hard to keep clean. Every finger print shows up. Even water stains are hard to get rid of. However the real problems start when you open the dishwasher. The space inside seems good and the layout is no better or worse than any other models, however the dishes DO NOT get clean. The cycles are VERY LONG - ence the energy comment. They seem to go on forever and then the dishes are still NOT clean. The dishwasher also does not do a good job at drying the dishes. Plastic is never dry and the regular dishes are only partially dry. I have tried every drying agent and every dishwasher detergent on the market and nothing makes a difference. The bottom line is that this deishwasher is just a lemon. I have all LG appliances and this one is definitely the WORST!!! Terrible investment. The dishwasher that I replaced cleaned better than this one. THE ONE thing that this has going for it, is that it is VERY quiet. You can barely hear it running.

Thought higher price implied higher quality, wrong

2

We purchased a home in 2010 and decided to replace the old, outdated appliances. We started out with our refrigerator, which was an LG, we liked it very much, so we decided to purchase an LG dishwasher even though it was much more expensive than our other choices. We should have stuck with a cheaper model of a different brand. This dishwasher is energy efficient and does not have a heat dry option. Our dishes are never, never dry! I hate having a dishwasher and still having to dry my dishes to be able to put them away. There is also the issue of the bottom rack very easily coming off the tracks, you don't think it is a big deal until it happens every time you are loading/unloading the dishwasher. We had a very cheap, older frigidaire model dishwasher at our previous house and it by far did a better job of washing and drying dishes than this model will ever do. Save yourself some money and hassle and buy a different brand.

DONT BUY IT!

After fours years, called for a repair of error message "LE". LG recommended repair tech states that LG used defective insulating material which melted and shorted out the electronics. LG is aware of the problem yet they did nothing for me to replace this expensive dishwasher.
