Loved the QWERTY keyboard

4

I've used this phone for 2 years and I really did love it. I loved that it has a QWERTY keyboard, which makes typing on a mobile device easier. It had great features and worked very well until technology surpassed it. Apps and updates became much larger in file and it just couldn't handle it any more and forced me to upgrade. It's handled bumps, drops, and such very well. I've never even had a screen protector on it and it was fine. I was very impressed with it and it would've lasted me a lot longer if technology hadn't made files so big that it couldn't handle it even with a memory card.

Pretty smart smart phone without the smartphone price

The **LG Ally Cell Phone **was my first official smartphone. Sure, I had used others but all that they had taught me was that I wanted a pretty big screen and that I wasn't ready to let go of having a full keyboard.  I walked into the Verizon store thinking I was going to by the DroidX (whatever the latest item it is) and found after about on hour of comparing the techs and specs that there was really no reason to spend that kind of money on a smart phone when the **LG Ally Cell Phone **would give me everything I needed AND the keyboard. (The Droid was touchscreen only that I was interested in).  I really like several things about the **LG Ally Cell Phone: ** - easy to use  - free apps are easy to find in the marketplace  - full keyboard  - great speakerphone  - excellent visuals in both video and picture quality  - easy access to Internet and GPS  - I can turn off and on things as I want to use them saving myself some money on my data plan bill  - ability to add to the plan and apps so that the phone can do even more than it already does.  A few things I don't like about the **LG Ally Cell Phone: ** - the linking with my Google page is necessary and so I have photos on my phone that I don't really need taking up memory space  - some days I feel like I have a really short battery life - others it seems it goes days without charging.  Overall, I got the smart phone that I wanted in the **LG Ally Cell Phone **it's touch screen, keyboard, videos, photos, flash, apps, calendar, alarm, talking, texting, GPSing and all the other things I needed in a smart phone for a fraction of the price.  Just keep the charger handy in the house and car and charge when it tells you too, and you will be pretty happy with it too.  Battery Life No real consistency in how long the battery lasts. Display/Screen Quality Good visuals, images, video and picture quality. Durability Even though I've since stepped up to another phone, my Ally is still in use!

I only kept this phone for about 6 months

The Ally is an ok starter smart phone. The battery issue never went away with it, regardless of updates and things. It had a tendency to freeze up on occasion, especially when talking on the phone. I think for a first smart phone it works well, however you tend to outgrow it very quickly. Battery Life Constantly having to charge this even when it was just sitting around not "doing" anything.

Should have just gotten a Droid

When I first got this phone I was in love with the android features and capabilities that the phone had and spent plenty of time playing around with the different games and apps that were available as well as browsing through the Android market. After playing with all the new bells and whistles I started noticing that the battery life on the phone was poor when it came to using just about any feature beyond calls and messages.  Everything else drained the battery into the red with a shocking quickness.  One especially shining example is the poor navigation app (provided by google maps).  This app requires the "location" to be turned on which drains the battery terribly along with the app itself running my phone would be dead by the time I got to my destination.  Also, the navigation app brought up another concern, when using it the phone sometimes freezes up and/or just restarts itself, forcing you to go through the process of turning on the satellite location and navigation app and re-entering the desired destination (as the convenient "recent locations" list just spits out random locations you have entered not necessarily going by how recent they may have been). Also this google navigator takes FOREVER to 'find' you with the satellite location, if you're about to go somewhere and you will need the navigation to direct you, start the app when you start getting ready to go-it will either find you or lock up and restart before you actually get to the car, I miss the Verizon Navigator.  Also, the memory is a concern as well for it being a smartphone.  I have 9 apps that I downloaded myself, the rest came with the phone-which is very annoying that I can't delete the apps that come with the phone, so they just sit taking up memory space for absolutely no good reason, their bright icons shining up at me mockingly as I go through my list for the weekly data dump because yet again memory space is low.  I can't even use the email apps on the phone because the memory fills up almost immediately and flashes that lovely "!" notification letting me know that space is low. So overall I am happy with the capabilities of the phone with some of the apps and fast internet but I just think that they shouldnt be nearly hyped up as much as they are if this is par for the course with an LG smartphone.

LG ALLY Cell Phone is ok phone but short battery life!!

I purchased this phone because I wanted to experience the Droid type phone technology.  I previously owned a blackberry but wanted the slide phone with a full keyboard.  When I first got the phone I was disappointed because it was very difficult to figure out even after reading the manual and I had to do a lot of research on the internet to figure out different things.  It also kept restarting on me and would freeze often.  This was discouraging, but I then found out that it have updates installed regularly to prevent these freeze ups. It has since not done this and I love being able to have a computer at my fingertips most of the time.  I did not use any applications until recently and have found it has a large selection of applications available and free or reasonably cheap.  The screen is a decent size and the picture quality is decent.  The only downfall that I have found is the internet seems to be slow.  It also has a built in map which charts your location and can be used as a GPS!  The only other issue I do have is the battery life is very short because of the internet and email use.  Overall, this product was a good phone at a decent price and I have had only minor problems now that the quirks were worked out.

Heart broken

Well I got my LG Ally in August of 2010, it's now May of 2011 and I had to get a new phone. This was my first ever "super" phone, I usually opted for the phones with nothing more than the ability to talk and text. It was my husbands idea to get this "super" phone for me, and I have to admit that I started to really like it! When I figured out all that it could do I fell in love with the phone. I used it for everything, I could facebook, texting was a breeze with the dictation ability and I used the alarms and calendar every day....until..... It started slowly, I wouldn't get any texts for a while, then I would get calls asking if I got a text..."No? I didn't get any text from you." So I would turn off my phone and then turn it back on and get a ton of texts! Next thing I know my screen lock was missing, then my home and phone buttons stopped working and then I find out people had tried to call me and it never came through, not even to my voice mail. Then to top it off I was texting a friend, her name was the only one on that thread, yet it ended up being sent to someone else completely! How? I have no idea! I brought it in to the Verizon store and they said it was still under warranty and that I could call this 800 number and have them send me a refurbished phone, or I could use the upgrade from one of the other lines on our plan. I talked with my husband and he said "Whatever you want, I don't care." So I went back and asked about getting another Ally....They don't make them anymore! So I now wonder, do they not make them because other people were having the same problems and that if I had gotten the refurbished would it soon start to have the same problems? As much as I loved my Ally I decided to get a new phone.

love the ally

I really like the LG ally. I was hesitant about getting a touch screen, but after buying this one my feelings changed. I like the fact it has a keyboard that slides down because the keypad on the screen is too small. One thing I don't like is that it doesn't have flash player so online surfing is limited. The android apps market has plenty of variety to keep me busy with whatever random nonsense I want to mess with. I like the fact I can check my facebook, twitter, and google email whenever I want also. There are a bunch of games that I like as well, including skip-bo, a crossword puzzle app because I am a nerd, and an entertaining app called furdiburb that is a virtual alien that you get to hatch and take care of. You definitely need the task killer app because everything keeps running in the background and seriously eats your battery. If you don't, you'll be charging your freakin battery every 6 hours or so, and who has time to keep the phone plugged in that often??

Good but wish it had more internal memory.

I had my Ally for couple of months now. It does all the basic smart-phone features pretty well like push emails, texting, web browsing. The call quality and signal reception is good too. GPS locks within ten seconds and locates me accurately on the map. It's got very sharp WVGA screen and decent physical keyboard for easy typing. However it's got small amount of internal memory, so you cannot install as many apps from android market as you wish. Also its processing power and memory is quite limited, so if it's pushed hard on web browsing, videos, games, Ally will struggle and might freeze, reboot at times. The battery staying power is a bit week, but if you properly manage the apps, setting, getting one day usage out of it is no problem. You just need to minimize unnecessary wireless data access for sync, updates in apps, widgets. I recommend to not use news/weather widgets on screen as that drains battery real fast.

Love my Ally!

I recently purchased my first smart phone, which did not work out for me because I couldn't use the touch pad to type things on it. I tried and tried, but became very frustrated with mistypings. Thankfully Verizon has a return policy on new phones. If you are not happy with it, you can exchange it for something better suited to your needs. Thank God for that. I went back in and asked about one with a sliding raised keypad, and they suggested the Ally. I took it home, and haven't looked back since! The ease of use, the internet connection, all of it is great! I can now type my messages without having to go back over and over correcting my typos! This phone is wonderful and I am so happy with it! The camera gets a lot of use from me.

Flipped out over my flip phone

I have had an LG Ally for a few months now and it is by far the best phone there is. It is so user friendly because it is a smart phone. It can remember pictures, times, dates, passwords, and just about everything else. I realized that the addresses I added into my e-mail accounts were automatically saved which was really awesome. The clarity of the pictures taken by the camera are crystal clear. You can look at the screen either vertically or horizontally. The phone allows you to move through the screen by dragging your finger and you can adjust the size of the screen by pinching or expanding your fingers. The keyboard is sensational and I am used to where everything is. I would not give this phone up for another and I would recommend it with the highest regards.
