Great TV but 120HZ doesn't live up to the hype.

LG's 42" 1080p 120Hz 42LD520 is a beautiful set, great colors, good viewing angles, a rotating base, and a low-profile power cord for easy wall mounting if you desire. The colors on the 520 are rich, and it's more than bright enough, I turned the brightness down to about 40% in my theatre room. The menu system is very responsive, and changing channels is also quick, a welcome change from my old toshiba that seemed to take ages to respond to remote commands. I know this will sound trivial, but I really like the circular volume display, it's just a bit different and quite slick. The one downfall of this TV, if you can consider an extraneous feature a downfall, is the 120Hz Tru-Motion display mode. It adds "jitter" and seemingly exaggerates small movements. The end result just makes movies and TV seem more staged than they already do. Explosions and effects look fake, dialogue is thrown off, it makes everything appear to have been filmed "cloverfield style" on a hand held camera, and it's not an effect I care for. But hey, you can turn it off easily in that nice responsive menu! I wouldn't bother paying extra for this set over a standard 60Hz set unless you've checked out tru-motion in person and like how it affects things.

We love the LG 42 inch HDTV

We actually bought LG's 5300. We have waited awhile to jump on the flat panel tv bandwagon and are glad that we did. By waiting, the price came down a little, and the technology only gets better. We thought we could get by with the 37 inch size, but the 42 inch looked so much better in our entertainment space that we decided to go with it. We really like how clear the images are. We really like the brightness of the picture. On another HDTV we had tried, any dark parts to the screen images were way too dark. Set up was very easy for this tv. The appearance of it really is designed very nicely and it looks so sleek and cool. We weren't happy with how movies looked on it until we upgraded our DVD player to a blu ray. Now the images don't have that distorted/pixellated look to them. We're really glad we went with the 120HZ speed. Any panning of the camera would have been too jumpy at the lower speed. The volume is really great, no home theater system needed.

I'm in love with my LG TV!

Our old tube TV literally died on us on the day of my son's birthday party. We had been talking about a new TV but had done little research. So when we stared looking we were overwhelmed with the options. We are your basic middle income family so we wanted a TV that would give us a good picture, but not cost us more than a paycheck! This is the perfect TV for that. ***Some of the highlights:*** Cost. Was a great middle of the road priced TV for the size we wanted. Name brand. Several tech savvy friends of ours told us to make sure to go with a name brand. Everyone has its problems, but most of the major name brands have good quality products for the average consumer. 120Hz refresh rate for the same cost as the 60Hz. This was something we were hoping to get without having to shell over a bunch more money. It means better picture quality when playing games or watching fast action movies. Energy efficient. I like to use the automatic brightness setting, so in the evening with low lights, the screen dims making it easier to watch & more efficient (you can turn this off easily if you choose) Awesome picture quality! Easy to use menu screens. 2 HDMI inputs, great for explanding your home theater system. Overall it just looks nice! Highly recommend this TV.

ive had this Tv for about 2 months now. Id most def recommend it to friends and family.I needed a decent tv because i have a huge bluray collection and wanted to get a good looking tv to show off what bluray can really do and this did the job. not only was it cheap (599 on amazon) but it was cheaper then any other 120HZ tv i could find. the picture on it is very good and the trumotion (the thing that people refer to as the soap opera effect) takes a few days to get use to but its actually very nice. If you have a bluray set up the picture is awesome. I use this Tv in my Man cave so the space isnt that big but 42 inchs is big enough for a room if your going that route. So if your looking to get a good deal on a HDTV with 120HZ trumotion id say this is the way to go. perfect size can hang it up on a wall its very light. easy to set up and the menus are very easy. I would say if your on the fence about it go ahead and get it

LD520 is a great TV for a great price!

We bought the 47" LD520 this thanksgiving, and since the only difference is screen size, i take the liberty to review the 42" LD520. First off, teh TV was quick and easy to install and set-up- it took about 10 minutes from box to tv-stand- make sure you have two people doing the job, as the TV is bulky even though it is light. The stand looks plasticky but has so far given no problems in performance. Picture quality is great, although sound is tinny- we like to watch a lot of music, so we attached some Bose speakers to cover up the TV's sound. We are not fans of the 120hz though, and keep it on only for watching sports. The intelligent sensor mode is great for our apartment that gets extremely bright in the daytime. The colors are great for all light conditions, and we noticed no glare even when the sun was falling on the TV on a bright day- the biggest reason we bought an LCD TV! We have mostly used the TV for gaming and watching movies, and the colors and picture quality has been great for both. The TV performs great on game-mode as well, our Xbox and Kinect games have no lag. We stream netflix through our xbox (you have to purchase a gold membership, even if you already have an existing netflix membership-stinks!) so we didn't need internet connectivity- a small USB dongle for the Xbox connects it to wifi and is well below the cost difference of an LD550. All in all, a great TV for all occasions- make sure you register your TV online to get extended warranty deals!

This LG TV definitely makes Life Good!

My husband have had one other HDTV in a 42in by a "No name" brand because it was cheaper at the time and it fit our budget! We immediately realized our mistake because the TV was horrible on so many levels! About a year later we found a fabulous deal on this TV for the same price (maybe cheaper) and my husband asked if we could buy it! I didn't use our old TV as much as he did, but even I was frustrated with it so I said to go for it. I am SO glad we went ahead with this purchase because you can tell it is a quality made TV. The set up was so easy and the menu is straight forward - there is no way you can be confused with this TV! It is very user friendly. Even the volume bubble (where it shows you the number you've gone up or down) is adorable and fun to watch! We have both said that there is a HUGE different in our old TV and the LG TV. We learned our lesson when buying brand named vs. no name - do not waste your money to begin with and buy a quality, brand name, you can trust! We learned we can trust LG - we love our TV!!!!
