I bought the 42" flat screen LG tv with HDTV although my satellite signal is not HD.  As long as you are sitting the recommended distance from the tv, the picture is amazing, even in regular AV mode.  If you are sitting too close, the picture may be a little grainy, but not bad.  With movies that are HD, when you put it on HD mode, the picture is to die for (regardless of how close you sit).  My boyfriend was drooling all over himself when we watched the first HD movie and all of my brother's friends (about 19 years old) want to come over to my house to watch tv, or a movie, or the game, or whatever!  The price was a little high (around $1,100), but I believe you get what you pay for and hopefully, it will last longer than some of the cheaper brands.
