Great Fun

If the Lego pieces would stick together better this game would awesome. Sometimes the sheer frustration from trying to get the pieces to stay together ends the game.

It was good but hard to guess!

We bought this game for my almost 10 year old son who loves Legos. He had been wanting it for awhile and he was so excited when he opened it up. It was a pretty good game, but harder than I thought that it would be. We tried playing this with adults and it is hard. I like the Pictionary game, so I figured it would be a little similar. It is so much easier to guess what someone is drawing then what someone is making out of Legos. We gave up on rolling the dice and decided to just pick whatever we wanted to build off of the card. Even then it was hard to figure out what people were making. Saying all of that my son still likes this game and plays it with a friend when he comes over. I guess the important thing is that he likes it. He did get frustrated with it a few times, but worked it out in his own way. The game is a little expensive, but then most Lego stuff is so that wasn't a big surprise to me. I don't know if I would recommend this game or not. If you are up for a challenge then go for it.

Good toy

I recently purchased the for my 7 year old twins, and they love it. I actually hesitated to buy this because some of the other Lego games I have gotten really didn't interest my boys. The directions to this game are quite simple, and it's really more of using your imagination. Whichever category comes up on the dice, is what type of card you pick. And then you have to choose one of the pictures and try to re-create the image using Lego blocks. Then others have to try and guess what you have built. I love that this gets my kids to use their imagination. Some of the images are a little more difficult to even try to attempt to build, but there are a lot of simple ones that aren't so hard. This game is a very creative game to play with building legos, rather than just following the directions of putting together a themed Lego set. It would be nicer if they gave you more Lego bricks to build with (that would definitely make it easier). But I think they give you a fair enough amount. I would definitely recommend this game to any one that is into Legos or other building blocks or to anyone who have a creative imagination.

good game but hard to learn to play

I got the game. Not that good if not lego expert. Not a good price since I think there are not enough lego pieces to build most of the things. I like it but it is really challenging. It is also very difficult to build the things without some pieces that would make it easier. I would say if you are a expert or intermideate lego builder this game is for you.

Lego board game 'Creationary' just doesn't cut it.

LEGO Creationary Board Game just doesn't cut it. The concept is simple enough. It is similar to pictionary but you create the object through legos rather than draw it. At most it is fun for the person creating the object but that is about it. The items you are to create are rarely possible or practical. It takes too long to build them, leaving everyone bored. the items are no where near being similar in timing. One person may get a fence that takes 1 minute to byuild and the next a warship that could take 20-30 minutes to make it look close enough to the real thing to be guessed correctly. As you can imagine, this makes for a very boring game waiting for your turn watching a couple of people build for 10-15 minutes, then you build for 30 seconds, then they take their turns again. My son loves legos. I thought he would love lego creationary as well. I thought the game sounded like a great idea for a board game however it simply doesn't work as one. Rather than buy this game, simply use Legos you already have, play pictionary/creationary.

Not that great

My 8 year old son purchased Lego Creationary with a gift card and I felt that the price was pretty high to begin with, but it was what he wanted to get, being he loves Legos and games. He got it all set up and his sister and I started playing it with him. Well, right away I realized that this is going to be a pretty slow moving game, when you think of the time that it takes to plan, look for pieces and build something out of Legos, that looks enough like the item for people to guess what it is. Turns out I was correct, everyone lost interest rather quickly. I think that maybe more blocks would help, maybe you could add some of your own. There isn't much that comes with the game, a Lego dice, Legos to build with and about 96 cards with pictures of things to build. I think they could just sell the dice and the cards for kids to play with their own Lego collection and it would result in a more reasonable product.

Creationary: A Fun Twist on Pictionary

3

Anything to do with LEGOs tends to be well received in our house, so this was a thoughtful holiday gift.  This game combines creative LEGO building skills with intuition and guessing abilities, so it does accommodate a wide range of ages (definitely for five and up, however).  It includes a small amount of LEGO bricks, with which you are supposed to create the items pictured on the cards.  The fact that the cards feature pictures (rather than words) allows pre-readers to participate in the game.  The creativity required to produce replicas of the items featured on the cards is substantial.  However, this game doesn't necessarily favor players of any particular age, since my kids beat me hands down at creating identifiable models.  The game itself is rather unimaginative, though, borrowing heavily from the rules of Pictionary.  It does take awhile to build each model, so the game tends to move at a slower pace.  Eventually, we abandoned the game in favor of simply looking at the cards, and challenging ourselves to build models of the items pictured.  It helped to add our own stash of LEGOs to the ones included; the small selection made creating certain items very difficult.

Lego Creationary was a let-down

1

LEGO Creationary Board Game was a major letdown for me. Granted, if you have higher expectations for something then it lets you down, it may be human nature to like it even less than you otherwise would have. But my son loooooves legos so when i saw lego creationary and read what the game was, I thought it was one of the coolest ideas for a board game ever. How perfect was that - pictionary but you create the object through legos rather than draw it out - added not onloy a 3D dimension to the game but more fun for the person creating the object to be guessed. So, as we played and my son lost interest I quickly realized so many fatal flaws that seemed to doom the game. I tried to stick it out a while after my son left only to come to the same conclusion - great idea but playability is zero! It just does not work. They give you these little pictures that often cannot be built. I thought they gave you pieces for each picture - apparently not. Try building a pencil out of lego blocks and see how long it takes people to try to guess what it is suppose to be. It jsut doesn't work. Sure there are a few quickies that are built well and fast and guessed but way too many that are hard to conceptualize and never come close to being guessed correctly and take forever to build. My nephew took about 20 minutes to try to build some picture that I still don't know what it was suppose to be of - boring game, too bad!

Creationary is the Pictionary you build!

We were worried that either this game would be really boring or extremely hard for the wide range of ages in our family.  We've tried the team play and it was a blast.   The idea is that one person on a team builds and the rest of the team guesses what they're building and whatever team guesses the creation first, gets a point.  Unlike pictionary, you are each working off your own card so you can't guess by looking at the other team's creation.  The objects run from easy to hard and you don't have to build exactly what is on the card--you just have to be able to get your team to guess it.  Everyone had a great time and we ended up not even keeping score!  My only caveat is that Lego isn't very clear about some rules.  I think the idea is that you "make it your own game" but still...for those of us just getting started on a board game, we're used to having the rules laid out for us!!  I think this is a game best suited for ages 6 and up, my 5 year old plays but definately needs a little help.

A fun game for LEGO fans

4

Creationary is a very fun game for lego fans of all ages. It is very fun building the numerous things that are shown on the cards. But if you are not used to building with legos then you might find it hard building some of the things with so little pieces. but this is rally fun to play with your family if you all enjoy it.
