As I was reaching 6 months pregnant, the last thing I needed to complete my nursery was a changing table. I was not about to fork over $300.00 for one of those nice changing tables I saw at Babies R' Us, so I just asked around to see if anyone was trying to get rid of a changing table.
I was in luck (or so I thought) - my 52 year old boss told me that she still had the changing table that she used on her kids (25 years ago) up in her attic. I was thinking to myself that 25 years old is pretty old, but maybe it would be in good shape. I gladly accepted the free changing table and went to pick it up from her car. I gasped when I saw it. It was made out of that thin plastic with foam under it that was popular in the 1970's. It had a bright orange/yellow theme that was obviously popular at the time. The plastic was cracked and torn with pieces of old, yellow foam popping out here and there. I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I loaded it in my car and thanked her.
My best friend came over to my house to see my "new" changing table. She herself is 50 years old and almost wet her pants laughing so hard at a changing table that she could remember from back in the day. We laughed as she said that it had probably been recalled 20 years ago. A couple days later, I was surprised by a huge box that was delivered to me from Target. I opened it up and it was the LA Baby 3 Shelf Wood Changing Table.
My son has been using the LA Baby 3 Shelf Wood Changing Table for 14 months now and I love it. On the upper shelf, I store diapers, wipes, baby powder and diaper cream. On the lower shelf, I store his blankets, sheets and diaper changing pad covers. There is a gap on the bottom where I can put extra diapers and store clothes that are too small. The only bad thing I have to say about this product is that the shelves are made out of thin particle board that cannot hold very much weight. One of the shelves dips in the center from having too much weight on it. Other than that, I have no problems with this changing table. It does come with a changing pad, but you might want to buy thicker one because this one is pretty thin.
Not only is this a great changing table, but it is affordable too! It cost $85.00 and is available at Target.com, but not Target stores.
