I won't lie...I have spent much of my life battling breakouts.  I was firmly convinced that I would be dead in my coffin, a full-fledged skeleton, and would STILL break out.

When my face decides to wage war on me, the L'Oreal acne system is my best weapon.  It will not cure the problem, but what the products will do is greatly diminsh the severity of the breakout.  I get very bad cysitc acne, and the pain is intense.  While I do still get those from time to time, I notice they're more abundant when I don't use this product.  What I do notice is that whatever blemishes I get, they're small and not nearly the self-esteem killers I am accustomed to fending off daily.

Take THAT, oil glands!

The face wash (step 1) removes makeup and crud very well, though it is a bit weak on getting off tough eye makeup.  Your face will feel clean and fresh, not tight or overdried.  After you wash and rinse (cool water is the best, won't exacerbate skin irritation), it's on to Setp 2 for the peel.  The first time you use the peel, you will indeed feel it, especially if you have broken skin.  Don't use this too close to the area under your eyes, because when that dries out, WOW, does it DRY OUT.

The sting of Step 2 isn't so bad that you'll stop using the product, that much I assure you.  But you'll feel it, and in about ten minutes or so, it's time for Step 3, the neutralizing lotion.  The lotion is very nice and soaks in quickly.  I have the bad habit of not always using it, so I tend to get dry patches.

My lone complaint is that the peel takes a lonnnng time to actually fade acne marks.  Were that part of the healing a bit speedier, I'd probably buy stock in L'Oreal and construct an altar to worship the R&D scientist who made this kit.  It's worth the money, and at $20, it's a decent buy if you don't want to risk the really expensive acne treatments out there.

Overall...it's a great find.  I think anyone with mild to moderate acne would benefit from this amazing little kit.

I REALLY appreciate your response! I checked her current cleanser and it doesn't have menthol. I took her to a dermatologist for another thing a few months ago and I asked about her breakouts. He acted like it was no big deal and said not to worry. He gave her some kind of gel to put on but we didn't notice a change. I think that it worries me more than her. I don't want to show my reaction too much in front of her because I don't want her to have a complex. It's hard enough growing up these days with the peer pressure.... I'll keep on searching for her cure though. It's hard because she's so young and you are right, her skin is so different than adults. There's much she can't try because it could make it worse...

I had (and continue to have) that problem myself. When I was in my tween years, I had to see a dermatologist for an unrelated skin issue. He noticed my breakout and asked what I washed my face with, and at the time, I was using Noxzema in the big blue tub. He told me to stop and to use Neutrogena's plain bar soap instead.

One thing that might help her is to look for products that do NOT contain menthol (Noxzema has it in huge amounts). I didn't know it, but he told me that menthol was a great accelerant for acne in many people. Menthol was working as an irritant on me, not as a help. I changed soaps, and sure enough, the problem went away almost totally. I no longer use Neutrogena, but the last kind I tried was their soap in the pump bottle, the specific acne wash.

Take a look at whatever she's using for her face now, whether she might be wearing a little makeup or not. Makeup with talc makes my face go insane, and in several places, I've read it's one of the worst ingredients for acne-prone skin. Look to see if her face washes or lotions contain any menthol. A change in routine could help.

I don't know if the L'Oreal kit would be too harsh for her, as tween skin and adult skin are two very different things. I hesitate to tell you to get it for her because her skin may not be able to handle the product, so it might not be a bad idea to call L'Oreal's help line and ask: you can reach them at 1-800-322-2036 or check out www.lorealacne.com.

If you happen to live near a JR Outlet, you can find this kit for $4. In regular stores like Target, Wal Mart, it's generally about $22.
