Kung Fu Panda Review Summary

"Kung Fu Panda had me laughing out loud the whole movie!" is a familiar refrain from the Viewpoints moviegoers. Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman add their voice talents to this animated martial arts film. A panda bear becomes the unlikely kung fu hero, thrust into the position in a most unlikely way. Featuring an underdog hero, Kung Fu Panda is definitely reminiscent of the classic Karate Kid, as well as the more recent The Forbidden Kingdom. Reviewers remark that kids enjoy the creative techniques, such as the "wu-shi finger hold," as well as the humor and cute animals, although some parents caution to look out for a few questionable language references and that some young children could get scared in the fight scenes. Adults weren't left out here, calling Kung Fu Panda a "great movie with a message behind it."

If there was one thing we heard the most during this week's martial arts classes, it was the kids asking us what a "Wu-Shi Finger Hold" was and if it was a real technique. I had seen Kung Fu Panda, the newest Dreamworks creation, with my kids, so I knew exactly what they were referring to. Something tells me we'll be hearing about that all summer long.

Jack Black voices the character of Po, a very portly panda bear that works in his father's noodle stand. While his father has promised that some day when the time is right, the noodle stand will be all Po's, he longs instead to become a kung fu hero....

This is a really cute movie even for toddlers. My little ones liked it and my husband and I laughed the whole way through!

I have to admit that I didnt get all the Kung Fu references, and I still found it really fun. Yes, it's predictable, and yes, it is silly-- but it's a kids movie. Isnt it suppost to be?

For those with really little ones a few warnings:

1. If your kids get scared, there is a scene or two that may be a little too much for them. (although they arent very long!)

2. The language is questionable in a few places e.g. "I suck".... This is why it is PG and not G. After all, it is Jack Black!...

We decided to try this movie to see how our 36 month old would react. What a wonderful surprise. Even after the popcorn was pushed aside she watched in awe. Even when she fell asleep 10 minutes before the film ended, the adults still enjoyed it. I won't ruin your experience with any of the story line, just know that if you are wanting to start your toddler in the theater experience, this is a good movie to start with.

We actually saw Kung Fu Panda in the theater back when it first came out, but since it was recently released on DVD we had to go and get it and I thought I would review it.

Po (voice of Jack Black) is a big jolly Panda bear who dreams about Kung Fu. Unfortunately his father only dreams of noodles and is hoping that Po will someday find the love of noodles himself and eventually take over the noodle business.

Meanwhile in the village the town master and insightful turtle Oogway (voice of Randall Duke Kim) has decided that it is time to pick a new Dragon Warrior. The Dragon Warrior will take the place...

This movie is no more than what it appears - a cartoon about a panda who gets his dream to become a martial arts master. If there is a lack of character development and a reliance on cliches, it is more than made up for by the humor and tenderness presented in every scene with the main character. The movie is packed with funny scenes, and has a lot of action besides. Even scenes that rely on drama and action are still being done with cute animals, so there is always something enjoyable to watch. My wife and I didn't do much research beforehand, so we had a lot of fun identifying the voices behind... review »

Kung Fu Panda was a great movie.  I was laughing throughout the whole movie.  The action sequences are good and the dialog was funny.  This is a great movie to take the kids to see.  If you like animated movies and comedy, it's a great movie for adults to see without the kids.

Our 2 best babysitters have moved away, so we don't get to see many movies other than kid stuff these days. I'm always on the look out for ones that my DH and I can enjoy along with the kids.  This summer - that meant Kung Fu Panda, Wall-e and Space Chimps.  We all agreed - Kung Fu Panda was the *best*!  My boys, age 4 and 6, loved the action and the story.  Mom and Dad loved the jokes and the great animation.  So, 8 thumbs up from the Power house for this one.

We took "Kung Fu Panda" on a road trip with an 8 year old and a 3 year old and were so happy we did.  When darkness set in and we were 3 hours from bed time and 5 hours from our destination we popped it in the van and they were content and quiet during the whole movie.  My husband and I love the lessons in the movie of "follow your dreams" and "anything is possible".  It provided a lot of discussion topics for us and our 8 year old.

My fiance and I just saw this movie tonight. We both loved it and can't wait for it to come out on DVD so that we can buy it for his 2 year old son. Not only did we love the comedy and action (Who doesn't like action in an animated flick?) but also the great message in the story. "There is no secret", in other words, believe in yourself and you can do anything. I would definitely see this again in theaters! Five stars!

We went to go see this and we just loved it. I think there were more parents laughing than kids. I can't wait until this comes on dvd, this is one movie I won't mind watching over and over again with the kids. Jack Black's comedy really made this movie hillarious.

It's the story about a lazy, irreverent slacker panda, named Po, who is the biggest fan of Kung Fu around...which doesn't exactly come in handy while working every day in his family's noodle shop. Unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Po's dreams become reality when he joins the world of Kung Fu and studies alongside his idols, the legendary Furious Five -- Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Viper and Monkey -- under the leadership of their guru, Master Shifu. But before they know it, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung is headed their way, and it's up to Po to defend everyone... review »

I actually like this movie! I thought it was funny and delivered a good story line. It wasn't too serious, and my 4 yr old loved it! We will be buying this one on DVD! Go see it! You don't need a child with you, adults will laugh too!

I took myself to see Kung Fu Panda one night while feeling particularly down, and it was probably the best decision I could have made. Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu, Angelina Jolie, Randall Duk Kim and Jackie Chan are the featured voices in this computer-animated kung fu fairy tale and I must say, after the first thought of "oh, that's so-and-so's voice", I didn't pay any attention to who was speaking for the characters. The characters themselves were so well-rounded and engaging that it was hard for me to remember that it was all CGI and not traditional animation. This movie is lush, colorful,... review »

I was  looking forward to this thing (from makers of Shrek and Madagascar) It starts off good enough, I saw some cute funny looking animals, a slick, animé/Chinese-inspired folklore storyline, great visuals and action scenes. Pretty cool right? I can handle sitting through this unscaved. Then of course, Jack Black's Panda character shows up...

Kung Fu Panda is the kind of movie that you can feel comfortable watching, knowing full well you proved the grown-up living inside you wrong. Wrong that you couldn't stop smiling, grinning and laughing at all the amazing charm it has to offer. The film is...
