Visually Stunning--Kung Fu Panda

I took myself to see Kung Fu Panda one night while feeling particularly down, and it was probably the best decision I could have made. Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu, Angelina Jolie, Randall Duk Kim and Jackie Chan are the featured voices in this computer-animated kung fu fairy tale and I must say, after the first thought of "oh, that's so-and-so's voice", I didn't pay any attention to who was speaking for the characters. The characters themselves were so well-rounded and engaging that it was hard for me to remember that it was all CGI and not traditional animation. This movie is lush, colorful, detailed and above all, funny--probably the best thing I've seen Jack Black do so far. His voicing of Po (the panda in question) is thoughtful and earnest; Po bounces back from every challenge with an endearing "ok, what's next?" smile on his goofy-panda face. The plotline reminded me a little of Kung Fu Hustle, and the traditional hooks (coming of age story in which no one believes the main character can be who he's supposed to be) are very familiar, but the intense action and energetic comedy are well worth sitting through a familiar story line.
