Krups FME2 Coffee Maker —

I received a very nice gift after a group of friends were over & went to get coffee & find out it was cold.  Turns out my Black and Decker only has a 2 hour time on a pot, which normally we drink in 2 hours.  This is a $50 unit not $20 for Black & Decker so yes, it should be doing everything we dream about for great coffee.  SO read on to what Krups tells you about it:

  • Full standard 12-cup capacity with 60 oz. water reservoir
  • 1100 watts provides fast efficient brewing
  • Programmable clock to set the daily start time of the brew cycle - coffee is ready when you are
  • Programmable auto-off from 1 - 5 hours
  • Flavor control aroma switch maximizes flavor extraction
  • DuoFilter water filtration system removes chlorine for better taste and reduces mineral deposits for longer machine life
  • Cascading brew head delivers a shower of hot water to ensure even flavor extraction
  • Pause and serve feature allows interruption any time during the brew cycle - just remove the carafe
  • Empty water reservoir detection shuts unit off automatically if empty
  • High visibility blue illuminated LED control panel for ease of use
  • Audible signal when brewing is complete
  • Descaling indicator measures brew time and calculates when descaling is necessary

Dimensions: (L x W x H)10.5" x 8.5" x 13.75"

So it fits perfectly on our 2 seat table in the kitchen.  The blue screen for time & program timer is very easy to read, not the red/black that many units have that a visually impaired person cannot read since it is all black.  The coffee is brewed in a shower effect for clean taste, not bitter as a stream brewer has.  Uses #4 coffee filter whether paper or gold filter.

So this Coffee Snob is very happy with her great gift.  Check the stores for the $50 price or cheaper for one great unit.  You can even brew 1-3 cups for a quick pickup with the touch of a button.  Krups has the 4 easy steps to a perfect cup of coffee for those of us who have never used a coffeemaker before.

I always wondered why you should NOT wash the carafe in a dishwasher. Not sure if that is why I am having problems. I did & now the carafe leaks when I pour a cup. The lid is flimsy and if I hold it open with my thumb & get burnt from the steam. My tablecloth is soaked, as is my white robe & feet getting burnt.

I phoned Krups & they were quite rude stating that there is nothing wrong with their carafe. They are sure that I do not know how to pour a cup of coffee correctly. I was quite insulted at that. I called back a few days later for a Supervisor & a message was taken for him to call me back. A week for the call & he talked the same has his clerks.

That tells me not to buy from them. This was a gift & I can't get a receipt to get another model, so I may try Lowe's for an exchange.

For $50, it sounds like a decent little coffee maker...
