As a kid growing up in the country I had it real good, I could get homemade jellies and jams whenever I wanted them. The let down for me was moving to the big city and having to rely on store bought imitations of my favorite berry. Yes the sweet red Strawberry! The best thing about homemade is the use of large chunks of these delectable berries and the Love my Grandma always added. Sure I found some good ones over the years but as they grew in popularity the prices followed suit.

Kroger Strawberry Preserves

Sure I found good alternatives to high prices over the years but most were short lived and local brands. Some I found looked good but the strawberries were like rocks you could launch from a sling shot to break windows. The slight crunch I want is from the strawberry and not a tooth breaking off! I first found Kroger Strawberry Preserves back in Indiana more than 8 years ago and have bought it exclusively ever since.

It reminds me of Grandma's homemade so many years ago. The strawberries are plump and firm but not hard and it spreads pretty good. They actually preserve the strawberry not petrify it into a rock! It is sweet, gooey and goes great with peanut butter or by itself. To me it is a taste from the past and I pay less for it than the big name brands and that fits my budget.

Bottom Line

I love Kroger Strawberry Preserves on bread but when you put it on a nice Hot buttered biscuit it is heavenly! Yes I like my sweets but as you see from the nutritional facts it's not all that bad. You get a good down home taste without a large price sticker to go with it. With gas prices making everything go up it is nice to know I can still pay less for Kroger brands and get quality taste!

Never heard of Dillons either! I shop at Price Chopper and P&C for food or else I go to the super Wal-Mart down the street. No one cares about price wars around here. They like to see how much they can get us suckers to pay for stuff. lol.

Grandma (God Bless her soul) used to have a pretty big stock of canned goods in her cellar. She made the best canned kale I ever had, her specialties though was jams and her blackberries. I would get my own jar of blackberries every time I visited. They were great with just a little bit of cream in a bowl!!! ;)

What a beautiful review! Your grandma sounds like such a nice person. Honestly, I'm beginning to get a little envious about all this stuff going on at Kroger's. I can't find one around here. When I get to Heaven, they darned well better have a KROGER'S! (That is always assuming of course that I'm going to get to Heaven, haha!)

That sucks!! We had Save-a-lot in Indiana but none here but Dillions(Kroger) makes up for it. We also have a price war going on here between Dillions and Walmart..I love it and am enjoying the savings. ;)

I never have been to a Kroger. We don't have good stores here in central NY. No Trader Joes, no Krogers...I feel deprived!

It's good that you posted a picture since some people don't seem to know the difference between jelly, jam, and preserves.

Oh Yummmm! Strawberry preserves on a hot buttered biscuit. That is a tiny bite of heaven. :)
