Okay Meredith, here is the much-anticipated review on the Kraft Philadelphia Spinach & Artichoke Cream Cheese Spread. Wow, that's a long name but it deserves every word in the title! I went to Publix and picked up my free sample right before leaving for my vacation. The regular price would be $1.99.
When I got home later that evening I opened it up and spread some on a Ritz cracker. I thought it was very delicious but it was too late in the evening to eat anymore. Well, that was Saturday and then I left for my vacation on Sunday. I began telling my brothers about how good the cream cheese spread was so we went to a Piggly Wiggly near our campground and got a container. That container disappeared within about the first hour of opening it! We were using Captain Wafers then.
Two days later some more of our friends met up with us and we went to Walmart to get some groceries and supplies and in went two containers of the cheese spread. This time we got some celery and carrot sticks to dip. While on vacation we went thru a total of three containers in one week so do you think I believe it's good stuff? Yeah baby!
I love cream cheese and I love homemade spinach dips. For me that is what I like about this new Philadelphia Spinach & Artichoke cream cheese spread. I don't like artichokes but they are so small in the dip that I can't notice them that much. Eating this cream cheese spread is like eating thicker and richer spinach dip because there is no mayonnaise in it to make it creamier. That's not a problem for me and obviously wasn't a problem for my family and friends.
The 8 oz container has a removable lid; which is good for someone who only wants a few bites and then needs to put it away. When I opened the container I could see the small flakes of spinach leaves throughout. I saw hints of artichokes and that was a concern for me because as I stated earlier I don't like artichokes but the artichoke flavor wasn't overwhelming. The cream cheese spreads real smoothly. I didn't break any crackers while trying to prepare them. It's a little thicker for the standard dip but we had much success using it with vegetables too.
I couldn't locate a list of ingredients on the Internet and since it is a dairy product that needs to be refrigerated I cannot keep it in front of me while I type out the ingredients. I went to Kraft foods and creamcheese.com and had no luck finding the ingredients but I did find a slew of recipes!
Nutritional Facts: Serving Size 2 Tbsp
As you can see, this isn't a very healthy item for consuming on a regular basis. The majority of the calories are derived from fat content and for me, that is not good. Philadelphia has many light and fat free cream cheese products so perhaps in the future they will introduce this on a healthier scale. This product does contain milk so if you are lactose intolerant or have other dairy allergies I would avoid it.
I will continue to purchase this product when entertaining but I won't want it for myself. Thanks to Viewpoints and Publix for providing a coupon for me to try the product for free!
