Anyone with kids knows mac and cheese is one of the staples in their diet.  But I have learned from experience they prefer one kind to another and it has to be made a certain way.

When my girls were younger, they would go to grandma's for lunch and she would fix them mac and cheese.  When they came home I asked how lunch was and they would say "not as good as yours"!  Well, what can you do to mac and cheese - I soon found out - it was the brand!  They like "Kraft" mac and cheese!  Who would have known there was a difference - kids that's who.

Kraft has a yummy creamy cheese sauce, but you have to mix it according to the directions by their dad: butter first, then cheese and milk.  Who would have known!

In response to LauraBelle's comment from Sep 22, 2007 at 4:09PM:

I love macaroni and cheese and Kraft is the only brand I will buy. I don't add milk tho... unless it's too dry.. I just add butter (I use my own judgement on that) then add the powdered cheese and always add shredded cheese....cheddar, usually, and if I have flavored cheese on hand like garlic cheese or bacon cheese, I shred that up and add it in too.. YUM

I SO kno what you mean about the brand.. if I buy the "wrong" brand, my husband can TELL. No tricking him, hehehe. Have you seen the Family Size boxes? They're a good size for family meals.

I am probably the only Southern chick who does not like mac and cheese, but one of my boys really does. Tks for the tips.

Great idea LauraBelle to use sour cream instead of the milk. I will give that a try! Thanks

I add less milk than they ask for, otherwise it's too saucy for me. I don't even measure. Spoonful of butter, never the 1/2 C they ask for, and a splash or so of milk to get the right consistency. But, I rarely use milk anymore. My favorite way to make it is to use sour cream instead of butter, and a little milk if it seems too dry. It gives it a great taste, like noodles romanoff, almost.
