My last dog did not care for rubber toys, but I had always heard good things about the Kong. When I got my new puppy he loved chewing on really tough things, so I got the little red Kong from my vet. He loves it. They sell special Kongs for puppies, but I've never had a problem with him chewing the regular one. The only discernable difference between the two is color anyway. If he starts getting on my nerves or if I need to leave the house and crate him, I fill it with treats that look like oyster crackers (Charlee Bear Treats). It totally keeps him busy. As a matter of fact, if I pick up the Kong and start to fill it with treats, he runs into his crate to wait for it. His sharp little puppy teeth have not dislodged any pieces. They sell special stick-looking treats made especially for the Kong and some stuff that looks like spray cheese to put in there. You don't need anything special like that. Anything that fits will do. I personally wouldn't put paste in there. The puppy's tongue is too short to reach the end and even though it says it's easy to clean, I'd have to invest in some kind of brush to get the excess out. It's a good thing to stick in a puppy's mouth as an alternative to him biting fingers. If it's not filled with food he doesn't really play with it too much.
