The "kong" dog toys are great, I have a 10 month old rottweiler puppy and his chewing got to the point that I was considering taking drastic measures. He had destroyed 3 pairs of my kids shoes and my sone eye glasses! My husband and I went to petco and did some searching for a toy that he could chew and not destroy it. We looked and looked and there were so many toys and they all said indesrutable, yeah right!!  I asked a store employee what he recommended, he said he also had a rotti and had chewing problems. He recommended a large bowling ball size hard toy. I passed and said he might get bored of it seeing how it doen't have many features. So he then showed us the kong section and said how not only was it tough but there were other possibilities for the toy. You can put treats in it and the dog will be occupied with trying to get the treats out which will keep him busy. The price is a bit high but the toy did it's job!!! I put a few treats in it and he goes to town trying to get them out. We have had it for about 6 monthes now and it has stood up well to him, no tears or holes, Its great!!!

When my big-o puppy stopped growing enough to finally just get one meal a day, she started getting an afternoon snack to take the edge off her hunger badness. When I prepare her dinner - a few spoons of wet food, with 2 cups of dry, I fill her Kong too - using dry dog food, peanut butter, a couple of little carrots, and maybe a treat on the end. I layer it inside, using dry pellets first, then some peanut butter, more dry food, a little more peanut butter, more food, then squeeze carrots in for some resistance to keep her from licking everything out too easily. I use carrots half the time when giving her treats too. They're easy to buy, and cheap considering the price of most pet treats, that are just filled with crap! The Kong canned treat stuff is sooo expensive, so even though I don't eat the stuff myself, I tried regular canned cheese and find it works okay for her. I use it instead of peanut butter every other week or so for variety. Always be sure to keep an eye on your dogs bowel movements too, to be sure nothing is messing with her stomach.
