Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty is the big sequel to the award winning PlayStation One game (Metal Gear Solid of course). In it Solid Snake returns for yet another mission to stop some scumbags but now he's on the more powerful Playstation 2 this time around so expect some fancy visuals and better audio plus expect a few other surprises here as well.

Super soldier Snake must now investigate a boat believed to have illegal Metal Gear parts. It seems like a routine assignment but it quickly turns into world threatening situation. Just before Snake starts his latest mission the boat is suddenly attacked and taking over by highly experienced Russian Commandos, so now Snake's mission just became much more difficult. The weird thing is Snake won't be doing it alone because there is another playable character in the game but more on that later.

Just like in other Metal Gear games it is better to use stealth tactics rather then going guns blazing on the enemy since you are usually both outnumbered and outgunned. Fortunately, Snake is no pushover and you can easily sneak around, hide in lockers, grab ledges, and use a wide range of close combat attacks to take out enemies before they can alert others. This game also throws a lot of curveballs in the story but this is both good and bad. The story is pretty cool thanks to the wacky bosses and plot twists but it can be very long winded as well and later in the game you have to play as some stupid, blonde, emo, dork called Raiden.

Make no mistake, this is a truly awesome game with some very realistic visuals and sounds but the thing's I hated about the other Metal Gears are in this game too like the inability to steal your fallen enemy's machine gun even though the guy is right there. Another thing wrong about this game is the whole second half of it. Instead of controlling the cold and calm Solid Snake, Raiden is just so lame and the storyline just goes downhill from there because of the inexperience of the rookie. Also what's the deal with the out of place love story here? Metal Gear Solid 2 is still a great sequel to the original Playstation and NES titles but it's somewhat short length, with some questionable controls at times, and strange new story hold it down a bit. Still, it's well worth looking into especially for spy freaks.
