The Kohl's card is the only department store card I own - and the only one I want to own. First, they give you a discount on your purchase when you sign up (as does just about everyone!), but then they keep giving you discounts. There are special Kohls card days, and if you spent about $200 in a year, you become an MVP and they mail you coupons once a month that you can use to get an extra percentage off on any day you choose.

A little known fact about purchases with your Kohl's card - there is a no questions asked return policy. We bought a KitchenAid pasta attachment (not cheap!) and it broke after using it once. I brought it back, afraid that they wouldn't take it because it had been used - but they didn't even open the box!

Kohl's as a store always has great sales - and their "off season" (which sends clothes eo the clearance section) always seem to start earlier than other places. Yay!

One clarification: you have to spend $600 a year to become a MVC (most valued customer) card holder; once this status is reached you get 6 extra discount opportunities a year than a regular card holder. (Regular Kohl's card holders get 12 discount coupons/ opportunities a year; MVC card holders get 18.)

To become an MVC (Most Valuable Customer) one would have to spend $600 from February to January of that year. Every Kohl's Charge customer receives discounts once a month, but when a customer becomes an MVC they are mailed six extra discounts a year.
Also, Kohl's will take just about any merchandise back whether it was purchased with the Kohl's Charge or not.
