Kodak EasyShare Z812 Digital camera

3

I received the Kodak Z812 Digital camera as a gift for Christmas last year.  I was not able to do any research on the camera before it was purchased because it was a gift  The camera is a good camera but I am not sure if this is the digital camera that I would have picked.  The zoom is a little slow.  There have been several times that I have missed a shot because the zoom is slow.  Even if you use the red eye setting, it is very easy to have red eyes in the pictures.  One of my other complaints is that the focus can be a little picky some times.  There are times that I will have the settings right but it just doesn't want to focus right.  I have to focus in on a different object and then go back to the original object to get it to focus correctly.  I would highly recommend getting an extra battery.  The battery drains faster than my other camera battery did.  The camera produces good pictures but it just has a few quirks that doesn't make me 100% happy with it.

The Z812 - professional enough for the "non-professional"

My husband and I traveled the world for four and a half years and one of the things that we always spent money on was a good camera. We didn't want something as simple as a little point-and-shoot that fit in a pocket, but we also weren't looking for something that would take pictures worthy of a big-time magazine. After doing a lot of research we settled upon the **Kodak EasyShare**, of which we're currently on our third in seven years - moving up a step each time.   Our **Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS** has been with us on several trips and two continents and I have been *very pleased* with the ease of use, the quality of pictures, and the length of optical zoom. It is equipped with an image stabilizer as well as a high definition video camera function (rarely used, but nice to have as an option). We have zoomed in on bald eagles, captured clear close-up shots, and the motion feature has allowed me to take some great action-shots at our nephew's ballgames.   I have recently started becoming more serious and intentional about photography (still as a fun hobby) and have been sharing my shots on a personal blog. I have had lots of people ask me what kind of camera I'm using (they all assume one of the higher end cameras) and are shocked when I tell them it's a "simple" **Kodak EasyShare**. The nice thing about the **Z812 IS** is that it can work like a simple point-and-shoot if you don't feel like messing with the settings. It's user friendly and takes very nice standard photos on the go. However, if you *want* to do more, it's nice to have the ability available. With the variety of manual settings on the camera I have a plethora of options for various lighting situations, which makes editing the pictures so much easier!   If you're looking for a camera that will easily fit in your pocket - this isn't the camera you are looking for. However, if you're willing to go a little bigger, get better quality photographs and yet not pay an arm and a leg for one of the higher-end brands, then I would *highly recommend* you take a look at the **Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS**. It should tell you something that we purchased it three years ago and they are* still *selling it! I do have my eye on one of the newer models, but whenever this one finally gives up the ghost, whatever model I go with, I know it will be another **Kodak EasyShare **- no questions asked.
