My ten-year-old son and I were at the grocery store when we came across Knorr Sides Plus Veggies.  Surprisingly, my son asked if we could buy some.  I thought to myself "my son wants vegetables?"  Then I realized that it was the combination of veggies and spiral pasta that caught his eye.  I agreed to buy a couple of packages of the Roasted Garlic, Olive Oil & Broccoli Rotini since they were only about $1.59 a pouch.

What is this stuff?

These nourishing side dishes are made with either pasta or rice mixed with two full servings of vegetables like carrots, green beans, peas, corn, or broccoli.  There is a pretty good variety to choose from that include Southwestern Style Rice, Cheddar Rice with Broccoli & Carrots, Roasted Chicken Rice with Harvest Vegetables, Teriyaki Noodles with Asian Style Vegetables, Roasted Garlic, Olive Oil & Broccoli Rotini and Alfredo Pasta Primavera.  All flavors contain a decent amount of vitamins, calcium, and Iron.

What we thought about it...

This side dish was very easy to prepare because there are no ingredients to add except for a little olive oil that is optional.  I just basically had to boil water, stir in the contents of the package, and continue boiling for ten minutes.  After it sat for about two minutes, I just had to stir and it was done.  It can also be prepared in the microwave just as easy.  I served Chicken Breasts with the side of Roasted Garlic, Olive Oil & Broccoli Rotini.  My ten-year-old son who was the one who wanted me to buy this product was the first one to not like it.  He took one bite and knew right away that he didn't like it.  The flavor was mostly that of broccoli and bland at best.  Although it wasn't very flavorful, after adding some salt, pepper and a little butter, it was much better.  All of us pretty much have the same opinion about the taste and I don't think I would try this flavor again.  There are still five others to choose from so we will try another and hopefully will have better results.

My Final Viewpoint...

Knorr Sides Plus Veggies is a nourishing side dish that will compliment most meat or poultry dinners.  I like that these side dishes contain two full servings of vegetables but was not overly impressed with the taste of the Broccoli and Rotini flavor that we tried.  I'm not so sure that I would recommend this particular flavor but will say that one of the other flavors may be worth a try.  I am going with a 3 star rating on this one because it wasn't bad just a little bland for our tastes.

This is the third time I double posted in a row. I must be double clicking like I am opening a folder on my desktop or something. GRRR. So, uh...how about some education since I can't erase my second post, only edit it. Did you know that women blink twice as often as men? Yep, it's true. There. I taught people something. Haha. (Can you tell it's 6:15 a.m. and i haven't been to bed yet?)

You know, just a dash of garlic salt and maybe some lemon juice could have sparked this up a little. It's a shame it was so bland and disappointing, it sounds like such a great product idea. I hope it doesn't discourage your son too much from vegetables!

Thanks for the great review, Laurie. I may give this a shot. About the bland taste -- I think sometimes these companies design their products for people who must SERIOUSLY restrict their sodium intakes. (After all, it's easier to add more salt in than take salt out.) I also like the Uncle Ben's rice dishes things that you just open to vent and stick in the microwave.

Most of the time, bland is bad to me...lol... thanks for making sure I never try these! ;)

Thanks for the warning!! To me, bland *IS* the same as bad. Life is just too short to waste time on flavorless food products.

I haven't been impressed with any of those Lipton Side Dishes other than they are quick and easy to prepare.

Which explains why we don't sell that much of the stuff!!! Good review
