Knocked up is a comedy that was recently released on DVD, it was created by the same people who made the 40 Year Old Virgin.  If you liked the 40 Year Old Virgin you will very likely like this movie as well.  In fact a couple of the actors that were in the 40 Year Old Virgin star in Knocked up as well. Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann.

The Plot

Alison Scott  (Katherine Heigl) is a lovely girl who goes out to a bar with her sister one night her sister is a bit depressed because her marriage isn't really going the way that she wants it too.  While attempting to a get a beer at the Alison meets a slightly less attractive than herself Ben Stone.  Ben is funny and ends up charming Alison and they end up talking and hanging out together all night after her sister goes home.  Of course the whole time they are hanging out they are getting drunk, which results in them sleeping together.  Of course in the morning when they wake Alison immediately thinks she made a big mistake as she figures out that Ben is not exactly Mr. Wonderful.  He is actually kind of an over grown adolescent.  So she kind of slinks away and returns to her normal life.  Working on a television show and living with her Sister Debbie (Leslie Man) and her brother in law Pete (Paul Rudd).

A few weeks later Alison discovers that she is pregnant and she decides to contact Ben to let him know.  They realize that they actually enjoy being with each other so they decide to give a relationship a try.  Alison tries to ignore the fact that Ben is still an over grown adolescent who spends most of his time getting high with his friends, as they try to create an adult type website.  Meanwhile they all live in the same house, getting high and goofing off most of the day and actually thinking or working on the business very little.  Despite this Alison and Ben have a good time together, but eventually she comes to realize that Ben is not a really a responsible guy and couldn't possibly be the father that her child needs or the husband that she can depend on.  Her sister's fizzling marriage is another indicator of why she should be scared.  Their marriage scares both Alison and Ben as Ben becomes friends with Pete.

Ben either needs to grow up or give up on having a family with Alison and the baby.

My Thoughts

The movie is very entertaining, and has some really funny moments.  Of course some of the humor is juvenile and some is kind of disgusting, but for the most part the humor is clever and fun.  There are even touching parts in the movie as you learn not only about Ben and Alison, but Debbie and Pete as well.  All of the main characters in this movie must learn to grow up, and you will have to see the movie to see if they do.  This movie is almost as good as the 40 Year Old Virgin.
