Okay I'll be honest, I'll come clean; Katherine Heigl was prime motivator in going to see Knocked Up. Next to my wife she is probably one of the only women in America whom I would die for. Perhaps that is a (slight) exaggeration, but you get the picture, I have a serious case for the blonde with the million dollar smile, and serious curves. So I wanted to see the Gray's Anatomy alum on the big screen, smile and all.
Spun in the tradition of There is Something About Mary, Knocked Up, directed by the same man who brought us The 40-Year Old Virgin was a mild comedic movie that made me laugh all too infrequently. The movie is really a Dramatic/Comedy, and as such it plays well enough with just enough frames of Ms, Heigl to keep on happy. But the gags have been done and done again, and so lose their punch, and the profanity was a bit excessive, so leave the kids at home.
Katherine's (Alison Scoot) male (romantic/comic) lead, Ben Stone, is portrayed by Canadian Seth Rogen, while her older sister Debbie is portrayed by Leslie Mann. All turned in fine performances, and had an equally as adept supporting cast. Knocked Up's big surprise comes at the end and involves the birth of a baby the natural way, and that is all I will say.
When all is said and done and the credits rolled, Knocked Up was well worth the trip to the cheapie ($3.00 a ticket) movie theater to see Ms. Heigl at her big screen best.
