We have stayed in many hotels, motels in many states over several decades. Sometimes the lodgings have been 'fancy', other times just a place to stay the night. The Knights Inn in Bourne, MA is hands down the worst place I have ever stayed. The $29 a night Super 8 was a palace in comparison.
I booked two rooms together weeks in advance. Upon arrival we were told our rooms were on different floors (the hotel was NOT, by any means, full). They did correct the problem by moving us to the same floor, but there was a huge walkway between our rooms. The covered outdoor walkway made up one wall side of the room which proved to be acoustically perfect for elevating the already annoying level of outside noise created by other guests (inebriated or underage or both) passing through the walkway throughout the night. None of us slept that night.
Upon entering the room we were greeted by an oversized plastic bottle of cleaning fluid and a stale air hot room. Though it was was 90 degrees outside and we had reservations, the air conditioner was not turned on prior to our arrival. Neithe was the dorm size fridge turned on. This may explain the overgrowth of black mold on both sides of, and the full length of, the seal. The fridge was on some type of pedestal, precariously off balance.
There was an outside open hallway for the second floor which children were running back and forth on throughout the night. No doubt the parents were just happy to have them out of the room. The walkway was just above our rooms so if the kids weren't hammering down the stairs or across the 2nd floor above us, other people were partying their way to their rooms which bombarded us on the wall side of our room. There is no doubt in my mind that these two rooms were in the worst location of the entire motel. I could see us being put there if there was no where else in the place, but there were many rooms available.
The remote control for the television was sticky, the chairs and tables were dirty, the bathroom was dirty and mold was growing in there as well. I wouldn't use the shower. The air conditioner never really got cold enough to be comfortable. The indoor pool was over chlorinated and was damp and warm and humid and unappealing. We did not step foot in the pool. The continental breakfast available was dry cereal in these plastic self-serve bins not unlike a large gumball machine. The plastic cutlery was dirty so we didn't even have coffee.
The room cost $130. I assume this was because the motel is located at the beginning of Cape Cod. I made the mistake of thinking that $130 would garner a decent room for the night. The owner/manager/staff were not educated in the ways of the hospitality industry. This is a franchise owned motel and the responsibility of the owner, however, it was so badly run that I would not consider staying at another Knight Inn even if it were located in another universe.
Rated MINUS 5 Stars. Atrocious!
