If you are aware of Mohammad Yunus and his Grameen Bank, read his book, or were in awe when he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work, then Kiva is for you.  Kiva has taken his microlending philosophy to new heights, making the loans available to anyone who is willing to share $25 for a short length of time to help improve the lives of people in developing countries.  From fish monger to charcoal sales, the sky is the limit on the type of business that you can support.  If you are a woodworker, plenty of them available.  If you are a seamstress, then you are in luck.  With the journal entries and email, you can follow and send an encouraging word to the person or persons you are supporting.

Are you a teacher?  Then a great learning opportunity for your students.  Have a classroom of 25 kids?  Then have them all bring in a dollar and have them watch what pooling their money and being generous can do.  It is an excellent tool to aid in opening their eyes to the world.

If you microlend at Kiva, it is guaranteed that you will sleep better at night knowing that you are making a difference in someone's life.
