www.kiva.org  has made a difference in my life and I have only discovered this fantastic website 2 days ago!

On a recent episode of Oprah, President Bill Clinton was on talking about his book "Giving" and Philanthropy.  During this episode, the creators of a magnificent website were on talking about www.kiva.org.

This is how it works:

1. Sign on to Kiva.org and become a "lender"

2.  Search through the  loans that are needed.  You can search according to sex, country, amount of loan, how long they have requested a loan, how long it will take to pay the loan back and so on.  There is also a very detailed description of why this person is requesting a loan and what the money will be used for.

3. Once you chose who you would like to make your loan to you can pay securely through your paypal account.  Don't have paypal?  You can use your credit card or mail a check as well.

4. You, the lender, can keep track of your loans, their repayment and the businessman or woman that you loaned to. You even have the option to correspond with them.  You will also get updates with details of how your loan is helping change their lives.

5.  Your loan will be repaid during the specified time posted in the description. It will then become "Kiva Credit".  You can withdraw it to your paypal account or relend it to another business in need.

I can't tell you how much this website has changed my life and my family's.   My 12 year old son and I sat down and searched through the businesses in need of loans and picked 2 that we thought we would like to "loan" to.  Since then, we are addicted.  What a great way to teach my son empathy and to help others.  He has even taken his own money to "loan" to his very own business.  How great is that??

www.kiva.org is a non-profit organization.

I encourage you to check out this website and maybe make a difference in someone else's life.

What a cool thing to do with your kids! Great idea. I signed up there a few weeks ago and am also enjoying it.

It's awesome. I have already been getting my money back and I didn't donate it a month ago. What a way to help people around the world!
