I was given this as a birthday present last year. I specifically asked for it and was sorely disappointed after getting to use it. I know it was expensive and honestly feel terrible for asking for it. I would never recommend this product to anyone for any reason. I  am completely satisfied with my Kitchen Aid mixer but this was a let down. In order to use it you have to put the bowl in the freezer at least 24 hours before you plan on using it. I received the Kitchenaid Stand Ice Cream Maker Attachment for a wedding gift to go along with my Kitchenaid Mixer.  I was very disappointed because of the amount of time you have to freeze both the bowl and the ice cream in the bowl.  You don't use rock salt, so really all it is is a bowl with liquid inside freezes in the freezer.  My ice cream that I made was runny and never firmed up the way old fashioned ice cream makers do.  I also made sorbet and it did a similar thing.  The sorbet turned out better since as long as the mixture was frozen, it turned out OK.  It was also extremely expensive...
