I'm sure I'm not the only person who could not wait to move into a new home that had a dishwasher after having washed dishes by hand for entirely too long! Our home came equipped with appliances, so I was able to start running my dishwasher from day one in our new house. The KitchenAid Suprema Series EQ Dishwasher that we have is a stainless steel model that matches the rest of our kitchen appliances. The interior and exterior, including the handle, are all made of stainless steel. It runs on 120 volt electrical current. With a Tier II Energy Star rating, it is a responsible appliance to run, both for your budget and the environment.
The machine has two racks and a utensil holder. The bottom racks have a trademarked ball bearing system that makes moving the rack in and out smooth and easy, even when fully loaded. The electronic buttons are stationed on the top of the dishwasher door, so they are hidden from view when the door is closed.
What I like about it: While I have the stainless steel model, three other options are available (wood, white, and black). I love the look of stainless appliances, so it's perfect for my kitchen. This dishwasher cleans really, really well. It's a rare occurence for me to find a dish that hasn't been completely cleaned, and that's even without running the heavy-duty wash cycle! Our water bill has never gone over $18 a month (we live in the county and have a water company that runs water for us...no city sewer and no well water). We also have surprisingly low electric bills, so I am very happy with how little it costs to run this dishwasher. There's a ton of space inside, so I can load the dishwasher up with regular dishes and even cookware, and it gets everything spic and span. We can run the dishwasher and sit about 10 feet away in our family room to watch TV, and it operates so quietly that we are not disturbed at all.
What I don't like about it: I have only one complaint, and this is something I have seen multiple reviews on all over the Internet, so it's clearly a common design issue with KitchenAid dishwashers. After about 6 months of our use (which means about a year's total use, including the previous owners' use of the appliance), the springs that hold the door up and keep it from slamming down broke. The spring is basically made from a shoestring-like piece of rope and plastic, so in (very little) time, the heavy metal door simple wears the rope out. Repair packages are available for about $20, but the replacement of that has been a tremendous pain. While it's not a major problem, it's definitely a safety issue if you don't get it repaired. I had visions of the heavy door slipping out of my hand and slamming down on the head of a small child or one of my cats...scary!
I am, by and large, really impressed with my KitchenAid Suprema Series EQ Dishwasher. I am thankful that I no longer have to wash by hand, but this appliance is definitely a high-quality machine that has spoiled me beyond what I imagined. Hopefully we won't need a replacement model for a long time, but we will definitely consider KitchenAid when we puchase any more appliances.
