When we moved into our house, my sister and cousin chipped in to buy us a KitchenAid Stand Mixer as a housewarming gift. I was a little puzzled by the choice as it was no secret that I was rather frightening in the kitchen. They swore that they couldn't survive in their own kitchen without theirs and that I'd eventually see the light. A few years later, I have to say that I have.
The Kitchen Aid Classic Stand Mixer has a powerful 250 watt motor that easily mixes mashed potatoes, batters, pizza and cookie doughs, etc. in its 4.5 quart stainless steel bowl. It comes with a paddle mixer, a dough hook, and a wire whip to help you mix, beat, and whip your ingredients together. There are various attachments that you can buy and connect to the front of the device to make pasta, grind food, juice citrus, grind grains, etc. The attachments can be expensive, though, so I only have one (pasta) that I received as a gift at my bridal shower.
I don't bake cookies or cakes, so I didn't really do much with my KitchenAid Classic Stand Mixer for the first couple of years. Eventually I started using it to mix mashed potatoes and batter for the bird bread (corn bread, pureed veggies, canned pumpkin) that I make for my parrots each week. I also got into making homemade pizza every Friday night and used this stand mixer to combine the ingredients AND knead the dough. Over time I've found myself using my KitchenAid several times per week. It has been durable, reliable, and powerful enough to easily mix any ingredients that I load into the bowl. I must confess I've even used it twice to mix dough for the one batch of cookies that I bake each year!
At $250, the Kitchen Aid Classic Stand Mixer isn't cheap, but it has worked well for four years and, in fact, works just as well as it did when it was brand new. Some people try to save money by purchasing cheaper models, but they tend to break/wear out within a year or so which means that they have to replace them regularly. So far, my KitchenAid has "cost" $60 per year. If it lasts for another 5 or 6 years, it will be down to something like $25 per year. I've read many reviews from people who've had these stand mixers for anywhere between 15 and 30 years. The price sounds like quite a bargain when you think about the cost per year with those numbers.
There are literally hundreds of positive reviews online for the Kitchen Aid Classic Stand Mixer. I must add mine to those already out there and agree that this is an exceptional product. Highly recommended!
