I got the Kitchen Aid RRK 5A as a gift.  It is a refurbished model, but has lasted for many years.  This is very heavy and would not be useful if it was not out on the counter.  I could not imagine using it very much if I had to drag it out every time.  It does make many jobs so much easier.  It has replaced my hand mixer.  It has made so many things like beating egg whites so easy.  It is nice to be able to put the things in the mixer and let the mixer do its thing.  It makes great mashed potatoes and beats egg whites in no time.  It is hard to get replacement parts for this model. The beater part is worn and this is the second one I have had.  Also this is one of the models where the bowl lifts, I would recommend the one where the mixer lifts as it would be easier to scrap and get the bowl out.  This machine has enough power to make some good bread!!  If you cook or if you have a big family and have the room for a useful kitchen appliance I would certainly recommend a Kitchen Aid, even if it was not this model.
