Not that great of a product.

I picked up the KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner because I wanted a way for my salads not to be damp after I rinsed the lettuce. I figured this would be a convenient way to get the lettuce drier and serve it in the same bowl. Kind of a 2 in 1 thing, right? This is the only salad spinner I have ever used to I don't really know how it compares to others but I really don't care much for this product. Firstly, the KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner takes up a lot of space. It's so bulky. I have a tiny apartment and my kitchen has very limited space. I have it stored under my sink right now because that's the only place I have room. My kitchen has one counter so when I use this I have to clear my counter off. It's just a hassle. Now for the performance of the KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner itself: It frequently gets stuck when you're trying to make it spin. I kind of have to shake it around then it will go okay. It does dry the lettuce but the fact that you have to shake it around every few pumps to get it unstuck is really annoying. I don't know how other salad spinners perform because this is the only one I have ever used but I hope the others perform better than this. I don't recommend this product. It's BULKY and it gets stuck constantly.

This salad spinner does just what it promises to, allowing me to make salads that are not soggy! This is the first and only salad spinner I've used, so I can't compare to other brands, but I am not 100 percent sold on the KitchenAid version. The part that spins the the basket doesn't always fit in the basket properly. When I pump it up and down, it will get stuck. Even when it doesn't get stuck the up and down motion can be jerky. Ease of Cleaning This spinner can be broken down into 7 pieces--the outer container, a basket, a lid, two dividers, the device that spins the basket, and a plug for the lid when you remove the spinning device. As a result, cleaning is a breeze. It did take me a few tries to master putting it all back together, though. Durability I have owned this spinner for about 5 months and use it every week or so. So far, it seems to be holding up well. As mentioned above, the piece that spins the basket does not work smoothly, so I worry that it may not last. Also, the dividers feel like they could easily break, though this would not be a deal breaker for me since I have actually not come across a situation in which I would need them. Design Although it's handy and clever that the salad spinner comes apart, the pieces don't always work smoothly together.

This little spinner works great and salad greens are perfect

I would give this little kitchen gadget a high mark in my kitchen. This was a recent gift and I thought who would mess with that thing. I finally got around to trying it and loved the crispness of the greens. The lettuce was bright and not only looked good but was delicious. Now I clean my lettuce as soon as I bring it home from the store. Let it dry and store it until I am ready for my salad. The spinner is red/white and I am a big fan of kitchen aide. That name usually means quality and this little gadget is made to last. Ease of Cleaning Easy clean up with this and I put it on the top shelf of dishwasher. Durability Comes with some pieces but stores easily and it is well made so the plastic seem to be of a good quality. Design I love this little gadget however I would have liked it to break down and store flat. If you are like me I am running out of room for all these great gadgets. This would be a good shower gift for someone getting married or for a housewarming gift. Not that expensive but really useful

You'd think it would be good, but.....no so much.

I was tempted by one of these in my favorite kitchen color after my OXO one cracked. However, it just wasn't the same. The push button on top of the plunger seemed to stick a lot and was difficult to disengage. I also did not like the shape of the handhold on the plunger. It did not give my fingers anywhere to go when pressing down and I got them pinched more than once. Ease of Cleaning Fine - just rinsed and dried upside down on countertop. Durability Fine - no issues in the 2 months that I used mine. Design Poor plunger design. Just nowhere near as good as my old OXO. I went back to my cracked OXO after 2 months of using this one. The dividers in the basket seemed like a nice idea - but I never used them.

Take your veggies for a spin!

I asked my daughter-in-law what she wanted for Christmas in 2008. She said, "a salad spinner." I bought her something else. I asked her what she wanted for Christmas in 2009. She said, "a salad spinner and reminded me that it had been on her list for over a year." I figured she must really want one and headed on over to one of our local department stores. I was surprised to find out that the store carried several brands, sizes and styles. Not being familiar with salad spinners, I took several styles out of their boxes and gave them a whirl. After testing them all I decided on the KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner. I don't think I have given her anything else that she has enjoyed as much. Each week she takes her co-op fruits and vegetables and prepares them by washing and spinning them dry before storing the food. My daughter-in-law absolutely LOVES this KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner. I love the KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner because it made me a hero in her eyes. Design I chose this model because it has a soft, easy grip pump that makes the bowl spin. (similar to working a toy top), has a 6.5 qt clear bowl (with two handles) that doubles as a serving bowl, has brakes on both sides of the top for added balance during use, has six removable dividers in the bowl to keep foods separate, has a non-slip base and compacts for storage by pressing the pump down and turning it 1/4 turn to lock in place.

KitchenAid salad spinner is just too bulky!

2

I was looking for a salad spinner for quite some time, and finally decided on this KitchenAid model--mainly because of the name and the beautiful red color.  I liked the idea of being able to serve the salad out of the same container.  I have owned mine for at least 3 years now, and have only used it a handful of times.  Why?  It is just too bulky.  It literally takes up half of a cabinet, because of the shape and dimensions!  I just can't stand to take it out and deal with it.  I also have trouble with the spinner handle.  It constantly gets "stuck" when I push it down to spin the water out.  Then, I have to repeatedly tug or push on the handle to free it up and begin spinning again.  This happens multiple times during the spin process. My mother had a salad spinner and taught me to add a tablespoon or so of vinegar and allow my salad to soak.  This gives the salad a really sweet taste, and removes bacteria.  After rinsing, a salad spinner is the easiest way to get rid of all of the soaking water.  I love KitchenAid products, but unfortunately, this one just missed the mark with me.

Kitchenaid Salad spinner- good for a lot of things!

I wasn't even looking for a salad spinner when I purchased the Kitchenaid salad spinner. I stopped by our local goodwill to drop off some items, realized I had about 30 minutes to kill before I had to be somewhere and decided to browse around. The red color on the salad spinner immediately caught my attention. I know my mother in law enjoys her salad spinner, so I purchased this thinking if I didn't like it, I did not waste very much money. I discovered that I adore this product. I love the cheeky bright red. It spins my salads and with three compartments, I can choose to spin one thing or three! I like the versatility this provides me. The product is durable and the bowl is pretty enough to bu utilized as your salad bowl. It is wasy to clean up and has a rubber bottom to keep it from sliding on the counter. I would recommend this to anyone that purchases fresh letuce and vegetables. I intend to buy a new one for my mother-in- law as I know she will love it as much as I do.

Spin and Store

During the summer I frequently shop farmers' markets. I love bringing home my fresh produce and washing it in my Kitchenaid Salad Spinner. It comes with two dividers, so you can actually put three different products in the same bowl and wash and spin them together. The lid fits on nicely and the spinning pump locks down into place. I always thought that having a salad spinner was sort of a frivolous waste of money and space in the kitchen, but when you need to wash a lot of vegetables its totally worth having around. The plastic bowl is very sturdy, and easy to clean. The strainer lifts out for separate cleaning. While I haven't yet, you could easily use the bowl part to serve a very large salad after washing. While I don't have any kids, I find pumping the spinner to be a lot of fun. I can imagine kids feeling the same way, and maybe it would make vegetables a little more exciting for them!
