KitchenAid Mandoline Slicer

Once I made the decision to change my diet to a more healthier one, I knew right away I wanted a mandoline slicer. Having this mandoline slicer makes preparing meals much easier and it cuts my prep time in half. I have incorporate more vegetables and fruit into my daily diet. I can easily slice carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and squash in no time to make a healthy salad. I also slice apples, pears and mangos to make a fresh fruit salad. I like how my potatoes come out perfectly sliced when I use the mandoline. I use the sliced potatoes to make potato soup and potato gratin. I like to slice different types of vegetables into julienne strips to eat with dip. The KitchenAid Mandoline Slicer is well designed and is very durable and sturdy. There are several different slicing options choices to choose from. I can slice my fruit and vegetables as thin or thick as I want. There is a food guard that has a comfortable grip handle. This product is simple to clean. This is a product I use on a daily basis when preparing my meals. Well worth the price and makes slices vegetables and fruit easy.

A favorite kitchen tool of mine.

I love anything that makes my life simpler, especially kitchen tools or appliances. With 3 kids and a husband. I find myself spending most of my time in the kitchen cooking for them or making them some type of snack. A tool that I absolutely love and enjoy using is the KitchenAid Mandolin Slicer in Red. This tool has honestly made my life that much easier. The KitchenAid Mandolin Slicer in Red can slice anything from potatoes, to carrots, to apples and pears. I use it all the time when I cook and need to slice vegetables. It saves me so much time and energy honestly. At times, I even have my oldest son help me and slice the vegetable for me. The KitchenAid Mandolin Slicer in Red has an easy grip handle so your hand or fingers won't touch the blades. The blades are super sharp and cut through the toughest of fruits and vegetables, giving you a perfect slice every time. My kids love this because I allow them to help me slice their fruits, with me supervising them of course. I mean, not only is this tool very helpful around the kitchen, it is also fun to use.

A time saver for sure

I love how fast I can get tedious slicing jobs done by using this mandoline. I used to slice potatoes for potato gratin by hand and it was difficult to get the exact uniform thickness that I wanted. The mandoline makes it easy. It took a little bit of practice to get used to using it. The included instructions were pretty basic without a lot of detailed tips for using it. It has a nice blade guard to protect against getting cut. It's pretty bulky though and takes up a lot of storage space but that bulk also makes it really sturdy.

a great investment!

I love this mandolin! It is rock steady even when making fast passes over the blade. The blades are still very sharp even after many many uses. The storage container for the extra blades is a great plus. I don't have any trouble cleaning it. I've thrown the whole thing in the dishwasher and haven't had any trouble with it not coming clean. No melting or rusting either. The two included julienne cut blades are perfectly sized for french fries and hashbrowns. I hardly ever buy frozen potatoes anymore and it saves me a ton of money! It works great on onions, tomatoes, and carrots too. Definately use the hand guard EVERY time! I thought I could skip it once on a small job and just be careful. I was watching my fingers so closely that I forgot to watch the heel of my hand and I managed to put a couple deep gashes in my palm. (OUCH!) My only complaints are that the clear part of the hand guard is now cloudy, presumably from the dishwasher, and the over all size of the thing. It takes up almost half of the top rack of my dishwasher when I clean it, and a good bit of shelf space in my pantry. But it's totally worth it for the time and money it saves me!

KitchenAid Slicer...pretty good, but not great

With this slicer being a KitchenAid, I must admit my expectations were very high. However I am not as impressed as I had hoped. To start off, the slicer is quite bulky. Even when folded it takes up a pretty good bit of space. I do like the fact that it comes with a special container for the extra blades. And the fact that it comes with different size blades is a plus. It also has several safety features, like covers for the blades to use when switching them. One safety feature that is annoying is the plastic cover that is there to prevent you from slicing your finger off with your food, it gets in the way! I know it is meant to help, but anything you cut gets caught and you have to start all over. It's a decent slicer, but there are definately things I would change.

This slicer is versatile, making dinner prep so easy you forget your working. We did have a problem with the guide, shortly after purchasing out mandolin the clear plastic guard broke.  We contact Kitchen-Aide, they were very helpful and provided a replacement.

love slicing onions with my mandolin slicer!

I got my KitchenAid Mandolin slicer in red from my mom for Christmas. I had read great things about mandolin slicers and wanted to try one out for myself. It sat in the box for a long time because I forgot about it, but once I finally got it out I was kicking myself for waiting for so long. At first I was frustrated with it. It didn't come with very good instructions and I wasn't really using it correctly, plus I was trying to cut cheddar with it which just doesn't work well with this appliance. Once I moved on to veggies I was hooked. It makes slicing tomatoes and onions super thin a really easy and enjoyable job. I even sliced pickles and avocado with it as well. It's easy to change the thickness for whatever your preference is. I also feel like my hands are much safer using this and wielding a knife to cut foods.  I also was able to cut whole carrots into small carrot sticks. I am excited to explore more uses for this product.  The one down side is that it is a bit bulky and depending on what you're slicing, it can be difficult to clean (cheese).
