I use this Kitchen Aid mixer for almost everything. The machine is extremely durable and hard working. It can whip eggs for meringues in minutes using the whisk while still taking on the challenge of a speciality pasta dough using the paddle or hook. I love the red color and the attachments that came with it. I have also added a sausage stuffer and pasta roller. Both are extremely easy to attach, versatile and as durable as the mixer.

Personally, I also like the KitchenAid mixer because it is heavy. It does not move around the counter like some other mixers I have had in the past. Anyone who has tried to knead doughs knows exactly what I am talking about. I do know some people find the weight disconcerting, but to me it is one the best benefits. The mixer is also taller than other models. It stands about 14" tall. So when I put it away in my cabinet I leave it in the raised position so that it fits in the cabinet nicely.

Another great feature is how the bowl lifts up into the mixer attachments instead of lifting out of the bowl. I find the rotary blade action of the attachments keeps the sides of the bowl cleaner so it does not have to be scraped down as much. It is also so much easier to clean the attachments if they don't lift up and away. Just remove them with a simple twist from the machine. When the mixer is turned on it is loud, but I haven't been around any mixer that is quiet yet so no complaints from me.

The shield that comes with the mixer is great for adding dry ingredients along with wet. You won't find yourself covered in a fine film of flour if you accidently increase the speed while adding ingredients. The standard mixer comes with a paddle, dough hook and wire whisk. It also includes a nifty instruction manual/recipe book as well. One warning from my own experience. Although the mixing bowls are dishwasher safe the PADDLE is definitely not. I made the mistake of putting mine in the dishwasher and had to replace it after it lost its coating. The cost of the replacement set me back a pretty penny.

I bought my machine at Costco and they included additional items (measuring spoons and cups) in the overall package for less than the cost of the mixer at other stores. KitchenAid makes great appliances right here in the US, so warranty issues are never a problem. Buying it at Costco also helps since they have a liberal return policy.

Bottom Line: If you are a real foodie get yourself a Kitchen Aid mixer. They are durable, efficient and well mad right here in the USA. You will be pleasantly surprised how easy it is to use and your creations will be better than ever. The price is reasonable expecially if you purchase it at one of the big box retailers. Look for the sales and treat yourself to this one.
