This review is about the Kitchen Aid Blender 5 Speed.

After more than decade of using a Kitchen Aid Blender that recently gave out, I just purchased the new and updated version.  I will have to say, it is even better than the first one.   The biggest change is the receptacle/container of the blender.  It is plastic and the original one we had was glass.  All else being equal I would probably prefer glass, but it comes with two important benefits, that while they might seem small are huge time savers.

The first benefit of the container being plastic is that it is now one unit. The old style container was three pieces and had to be disassembled and cleaned after each use.  This container is one piece and has less nooks and craneys so it can just be sprayed out.  Takes cleaning time from a few minutes to 30 seconds.

The second major benefit of the Kitchen Aid Blender is that it has a spout at the top that makes it easier to pour out the blended contents.  Again, seems small, but saves time and mess.

I make smoothies every morning and these two new features make a huge deal.  I will also add that I have been using our Cuisinart Food Processor as a stand in to make the smoothies.  This new blenders does a MUCH better job pureeing all the ingredients.

I bought this at Sur La Table on North Avenue in Chicago.  The store has a good selection of medium and high end cooking equipment and a very helpful staff.

Oh, and just in case your curious, here is my

Recipe for the worlds greatest smoothie.

  1. One cup of frozen strawberries
  2. Half a cup of non fat vanilla yogurt
  3. 1/3 cup of orange juice.
  4. One banana
  5. Handful of crunchy granola
  6. A tablespoon of flax seed

Very healthy, very tasty and will get your day off to a quick start.

The flax seed gets ground up in the smoothie and gives it a great texture. He will love it.

The hubby has been bugging me to add flaxseed to our diet so this sounds like a yummy way to do it.

The flax seeds are whole seeds but somehow blend right in.

Excellent Matt. Kudos for not being sucked into a $400-$500 Vita Mix Blender. (Has the world gone mad?) We start our day with breakfast smoothies also. Similar recipe, except we use fresh strawberries and 3 or 4 giant blackberries. We recently started to omit the flaxseed since our diet is already so high in fiber that we were creating a potentially dangerous explosive hazzard in the house. Rudi

Yum, I too am a smoothie drinker. Are the flax seeds ground? Funny I am using a plastic blender which is a hand me down from one of my kids after our glass one broke. Jo
